Usually a job has a set amount of time in total that a woman can take off work. For each one of my four kids it was a different stage in pregnancy that I had to take off....but all four were 12 weeks. With a doctor excuse usuallly a job will allow more if needed. It also depends on if the job is demanding on her body physically or is it a sit down job. Talking to her doctor and finding out the length of time her work allows would really help in determining when is best for her and your coming child.

It depends on the company that she works for. What is their policy? Also, what country are you in? Technically, she can keep working up until the baby comes as long as she's not having any medical problems. I was scheduled for a c-section on Tuesday, 7/25 because my baby was breech. My last day of work was on Thursday, 7/20 - and that's just because I started bleeding and having some mild contractions. I was advised to stay off my feet for those last few days, so I worked until I was 38 weeks. I took 12 weeks of maternity leave and wanted to save as much time as possible to take when the baby actually arrived.

In my opinion, thats way to early. Even at 30 weeks, since she will most likely go full term, it wont be another 8-10 weeks before the birth. Her best bet is to work as close to the end as possible and take a longer leave once the baby arrives.

Depends on:
-Type of job/position she holds & what physical demands it has
-Physical condition of mother and baby
-Doctor's opinion of when she should be written out

Normal vaginal delivery is usually an 8-wk matenity leave;
C-section 12-wks. She should try to wait as long as possible to go out(if she is healthy); it might be tough, as the end of pregnancy is very uncomfortable-yet she will relish the time at home with baby after. Before baby, it's just a waiting game, and more time to worry, think and eat. She should hang in there as long as possible.
If there are complications during birth, woman can be written out longer by doctor after physical assessment. Earliest to leave, however, would be relative to the individual, her and baby's condition, and what kind of work she does. I worked on my feet as a chef, with a herniated L5S1 disk, until I was written out at 34 wks. TDI only pays 58% of average of 8 wks work prior to birth, so its important she works full time up to end-do not switch to part time or average will suffer.

Maternity leave is extended from 6 month to 9 month from 01/04/07, so if she is due before then she is entitled to 6 month, no matter how long she has been in her position at work, and obviously 9 month if due after 01/04/07.

She needs to tell the employers that she is leaving 15 weeks before her due date, so she needs to get a move on if she is due soon.

Good Luck & Congratulations

Unless there is a medical necessity, you are supposed to work up to when you are due. What a lot of women do in my building is that they save up their vacation for right at the end of the pregnancy and take it then so they don't have to work right to the end. Here in Ontario, we get a year off work, which is really good for the baby.

it depends on the doctor and the condition of the pregnancy. For example i have 3 pregnant co-workers.... 1 who is still working and due in january...... another who is due in april yet now on maternity leave and 3 who is still working and soon to go.
