It seems Catholics obsess about Hell. Why? Even after Confession, you pay 'penance' but are obligated to confess the same thing again over and over, week after week. You get 'saved' 45 million times. You're a sinner, you get saved and 5 minutes later you're evil again......

Any other strands of Christianity like this?

unfortunately, practices like what you mentioned have a lot to do with the dwindling masses going to mass :0(
i personally pray, worship and praise at home or in the park or on a mountain, or even just in my head....pretty much anywhere else rather than a "house of God".
i have nothing against religions or churches...but sometimes the religions attached to the churches are overexuberant, overexpectant and down right overbearing. besides...God created this WORLD soooo wouldn't anywhere i go be a place of God??
Anyways, i dont know if im going to heaven, i dont know if im going to hell....i just know that i believe there is a God, he had a son, he died for our sins and that we are loved more so than one can put into meer words. I try to live a good life, being good to as many as i can (but some are really hard to be nice to though) and stay true to myself...if that gets me into heaven...super...if it doesnt, then i deserve what i get.
Good or evil could end my life at any moment, so to fret on where i'm going afterwards, to me, would be a waste of the gift of life God gave me in the first place.
take good care :0)

I think that your question stems from little knowledge of the Catholic faith regarding salvation.
firstly, yes Jesus saved humanity from eternal damnation by His death on the cross and reconciled the world to His Father, but this sacrifice does not excuse our dilberate and personal sin when we fail to repent of it day to day.
Jesus did not die so that we might have a pick and choose approach to sin, that would be tantamount to saying that we cannot sin anymore and therefore we are no longer sinners.
if you are saved does this mean that you are no longer acountable for theft, murder, lying or adulitery for example, do we then have carte blanche to sin?
when we sin there is always a restorative price to pay, if you steal someones money and even if you are sorry that you did it you must make restitution to that person and make good their loss.
Catholics go to confession for the forgiveness of accumalated sin, and it is not to be saved again but to restore the state of the soul and cleanse it from the stain caused by sins, the fact that we cannot always make restitution for commited sin, that is to make good the effect of our sins, then we recieve a penance that repays the debt of the act.you know as good and right as it is to say sorry to God for our sins it is also a relief to hear the Priest pronounce this forgiveness audibly otherwise you can carry a burden of self doubt.
for Catholics Hell is a reality and we are not obsessed about it in as much as we try to avoid it, especially by what is called mortal sin.

Many Hate what they perceive of Roman Catholicism, not the Truth of Roman Catholicism.

Investigate your Fear.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is an outward sign instituted by Jesus Christ to convey Grace to His followers. Please Read the Bible for the Truth of this wonderful gift from Jesus Christ directly to you.

Mt 9:2-8, Son of Man has authority to forgive sins
Jn 20:23, whose sins you forgive/retain are forgiven/retained
Jn 20:22, breathed on them, "receive the Holy Spirit" [recall Gen 2:7]
2 Cor 5:17-20, given us the ministry of reconciliation
Jam 5:13-15, prayers of presbyters(priests) forgives sins
Jam 5:16, confess your sins to one another
Mt 18:18 whatever you bind & loose on earth, so it is in heaven
1 Jn 5:16, there is sin that is not deadly (venial)

Each day, each person must work out their salvation in Christ Jesus. It is healthy for mind, spirit, and body.

well if you read your bible you would know that for one thing that god didnt call the rightous in this world he called the sinners the reason why they like talking about hell so much is because the sin that we do that will lead us there if we dont change our ways and ask for forgivness and when a person goes in to a confession both he ant getting saved every time he or she goes in they are ask god for forgiveness they are confession there sin to the priest . for god said to confess your sin to every one let it be know so that it will be harder for that person to do that sin again and we all fall short of the glory of god but grace will cover up our sins and save us from death

I don't believe you should confess to a priest.. This was done back in the old test(read Leviticus)... Now that Jesus has come he made us all priests and he is the high priest(read Hebrews).

We can now confess our sins to God...

As for being saved I believe Once in Grace Always in Grace..

There is no hell. Hell is a state of mind. Jesus never said there was a place called hell.
