Salvation:
deliverance from any kind of evil; whether material or spiritual. Theologically, it denotes(1)the whole process by which man is delivered from all that interferes with the enjoyment of God's highest blessings, (2) the actual enjoyment of those blessings. In the OT the deliverance may be from defeat in battle (Exod.15:2), trouble (Ps 34:6), enemies (ll Sam. 23:36-38), violence (ll Sam. 22:3), reproach (Ps. 57:3),exile (Ps. 106:47), death(Ps.6:4), sin (Ezek.36:29). God is often spoken of as Savior (Isa.43:3-11; Jer. 14:8). The most important of the human conditions for salvation usually means deliverance from sin through entrance upon a new divine life, and it is through faith in the incarnate Son of God (John 3:16; Eph. 2:13-18). Salvation brings not merely deliverance from future punishment, but also from sin as a present power (Rom.6). It includes all the redemptive blessings we have in Christ, chiefly conversion, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification and glorification. In some sense, the doctrine of salvation extends beyond man so as to affect the universe(l Cor. 15:28).

Salvation is not "merely" anything, if you turn to Christ simply for the benefit's then you are missing the point. Of course you want to turn to Christ for the salvation of your soul and to go to heaven when you die. It is supposed to be a genuine turn though. Some churches have turned it into a "numbers" game to look good in society. That is wrong.
It is not automatically and simply given to us because we have to make a step which is to accept and believe before it is given to us.
Christ was not selfish, he was concerned with others and giving of himself to them. If we are to be Christ like then we too must follow that example. Your relationship with Christ is very personal, but it is not ONLY personal.

Salvation is NOT merely saving our soul. It is also to walk with God & receive his blessings & the joy & happiness, in serving God, & it is not automatically & simply given to us, God gave everyone a free will, Therefore it is not automatic, & salavation is a Personal experince with God, & each person can only let God save them, Just becuase I am saved, that don't make my grand-kids saved, They themselves have to have an experince with God too.

salvation is more than just about saving oneself and entering the gates of heaven. salvation should actually be a continuing process as we go through life. it is not simply handed out to us, because we christians are taught to be good, kind and loyal to our faith so we could be saved. just like a real parent, God who is our father.. teaches us about the things we ought to know. He punishes us when we are doing evil, and rewards us when we do good. If we succeed in this lifetime, we earn our salvation.

1. the death of Christ was the one time price of redeeming fallen humanity, and reconciled us to the Father and by which we became once more children of God and able to inherit Gods kingdom, which was lost to us before.
to fully enter into the merits of Christ`s saving death, we must become a living participant in it.

2.this salvation is not an automatic one, we have to freely co-operate in it by taking up our cross and following Jesus, we have to accept Jesus as our Savior and turn away from our life of sin and disobedience and become one in the body of Christ.
we do not have the free choice to sin as we like anymore, and we must be responsible for personal sin in our lives and daily repent of our sins.

3.having accepted that Jesus is Savior and giving our lives to Him for our personal salvation we must not neglect the fact that we are called by this personal gift of salvation to bring others to it as well, this is the meaning of building up the body of Christ, and each one of us has a moral responsibility to do what we can to help others to Christ that they too may be set free.

"a.) merely 'saving our souls' and 'entering heaven'"
Because souls don't exist and neither does Hevean.

"b.) automatically and simply given to us"
Because there are no gods to give us any such thing.

"c.) just personal, just concerning one's own self"
Because we can't just keep ourselves from dying.
