Yes, the church although not a governing position anymore is fundamental in the structure of a system of right and wrong. The teachings of the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the mount were fundamental beliefs on which English Settlers were raised and therefore our laws were build and written by individuals influenced by these beliefs. As time goes on and the public moves farther from God and Christians themselves don't really know or understand the principles that they claim to believe in our laws become more and more distorted and complex causing more and more grey area and confusion. But the church and it's teaching originally influenced this country's system of right and wrong and therefore was a powerful course in the promotion of justice and development in society.

_ Notice that this example is Protestant, there are other examples in other religions as well._

Yes.

Take a look at the Catholic Church's support of the Polish Solidarity movement which eventually overthrew the Communists out of Poland and weakened the Soviet Union.

The Soviets were so threatened by the support of the Catholic Church that they set up the assignation attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_John_Paul_II

With love in Christ.

No. The church sometimes perpetuate thes injustices. Look at how they create missions in South America and then decide to slave the people or kill the people, not that they have become a burden and they have other interest; land and money. Our society need better principals, and they do not have to be based on any religion. I think they should be base on humanitarian principals since we are humans. The majority-even if they were religious leaders-sometimes have harmful destinies for the minority.

I would hope that the church would consider the eternal lives and salvation of God's people than the mortal moralities of the current world following the example of Jesus Christ who came to overcome sin and offer his grace and salvation as opposed to changing the laws he fufilled them for those who accept his atonement for their sins. Jesus changed society by changing the hearts of all who followed him.
