an issue with the wiccan symbols on veteran's headstones? Two widows in Madison, Wisconsin sued for this yesterday. What do you think is the reason why our Government, founded on the premise of religious freedom, would deny them the right to be buried with the dignity befitting their station and the respect due their religious beliefs? Do we need to start a petition to the Government?

Actually, I am a Christian but my Dad fought in Vietnam and he was atheist at one time (now Christian). But if he had wanted anything at all on his gravestone I would have fought tooth and nail to have it put there. Whether it was a cross or angel, or a picture of howdie doody. You fight for this land and my safety then you deserve much more respect and dignity than to be told what you ccan have on your dogtags or tombstones!

This has been an issue with the military forever, the using of symbols not associated with the major more powerful religions of the world. It was not in fact until the 80's that the US military would put Atheist or Agnostic upon a dogtag,if you put either of those terms on your paperwork your dogtags would say "no preference". Even now many places will still print your tags that way if you don't make an issue of it. I had to fight for 6 months in 1987 to receive the dogtags I had which said atheist,as I understand from guy in supply they were some of the first issued that way in Europe,I simply did it on principle. Today they would have to say agnostic I suppose since I'm not nearly as confrontational as I was then, and because my views on the subject have matured a bit.

PS Had to add by the way that if the symbol of paganism is indeed a version of the pentagram then it would be interesting to reference the Congressional medal of honor when fighting this fight because it also contains a variation on the pentagram if you really look at it.

I too am surprised to hear that. I thought that we had come further than that. I don't car if you wholeheartedly believe in the church of the flying spaghetti monster or whatever. Whatever symbol is appropriate to you should not be a problem. (believe me if someone put a cross on my grave I'd be haunting their a$$ for a long while!

People that aren't educated or more like close minded think that the pentagram is a satanic symbol. They think that wiccans worship the devil and not mother earth. I think it will take many years for a change in the way people think about religion.

The american government was never based for a particular religious ground. In fact, pilgrims killed us native americans for not believing in just one god. would you really like to live in a world where the people who belive in one god only killed us pagans and wiccans? no, because the burning times are over.
