John was the last and greatest pre-Christian witness. (Matthew 11:11) He was the one privileged to announce the coming of the Chosen One, and he introduced Jesus as the promised Messiah. (John 1:29-34) This is why Jesus said the words you refer to.

Hi, John was the precursor to Jesus and the first to recognize Him as the Lamb of God(Messiah) this fact alone made John the first witness of the Gospel as well and for this Jesus complemented and honored John with this remark, it does not mean that John was greater than Jesus and should be taken solely in the context
of John`s ministry and faith in Gods service.
John in fact said of Jesus to his followers,` there is one here who is greater than I and so I will decrease as He must increase.
Jesus is pointing out that John was the greatest of the Prophets.

Actually, Jesus said in Matthew 11:11, "Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."
Since Jesus was conceived in human form by the Holy Spirit, what He said about John was true.

John is held in high accord in 3 religions and also Freemasonry recognizes John in a great way as well.
I have read that each John is repersented by the winter and summer solstice. Still don't understand the depth of this. As solstice are great turning points.

John said that he wasn't worthy to tie the sandals of Jesus. Jesus was excluding Himself from that statement since He was not born of a man and woman but God and woman.

taking it out of context. If I said my Boss is a good due I might be telling the truth but, that doesn't mean everything he does is good. John did not die for the sins of the world. But, he did say repent for the Redeemer cometh.
