Unpopped popcorn has more calories because non of the carbs have been destroyed yet by heating. Carbs (esp starch or sugar) is converted to caramel (charred sugar) which literally have no nutritional value. Some of the starch is charred when popped and that reduces the net caloric value.

It is still variable because it is also sweetened with sugar during popping. Though some people use salt.

. I also had the same problem of figuring out calories, so all I did is figured it was 40calories per cup, after I popped (microwave), I would measure what I got out of the bag sometime 10c and just add it up that way. So if I had 10cups 400calories, 2 cups 80 calories. I have found Kettle Corn is addicting so I ensure someone at home and someone at work shares the bag with me (yes I still measure) that I'm not tempted to eat the whole bag (which I have).
