When you say kinds of photos, there are many.

Nature
people
abstract
Architecture

or, if you are talking more about techniques, as you mentioned rule of thirds and silhouette, then here are some ideas for that:

black and white
Sepia
background blurring

Picture writing is similar to a "picture essay"
A picture writing or essay is where you tell a story with a series of photos. Say you did it with 5 pictures, then in the first picture you might show a man walking to his desk. in the next he might take out a knife, next walking to an open doorway, next stabbing someone, etc. Just tell a story with photos.

there you go man

Are you asking about designing a photograph?
Design elements are: Shape, line, color, texture, and value (light to dark.) These exist in any visual art, not just photography.
Each element can be used in different ways depending on the effect you want. The only one you can eliminate easily is color, by making a black and white image. Pattern is shape or line with repetition.
The root of the word "photograph" is "photo", meaning light, and "graph", meaning writing. So it means that light writes or draws the picture.
As for kinds of photography, there is photojournalism, commercial (including fashion and portraiture), art, nature, and scientific photography.
I hope this answers your question.
