Now I know that most people think it is about 2 fat people pushing the other out of the ring, but I've seen some clips, and these guys are STRONG. I mean, their bellies are all fat, but their arms and legs? Like jackhammers. Not to mention that many of them are flexible and can do full splits.

Just wonder though, how strong are sumo wrestlers? I heard Mike Tyson's punch force (or something like that) was equivalent to 3 tons or something. I wonder how strong sumos are.

I think Sumos are very strong but they train for a very different sport where extreme weight is an advantage. I saw the video of Manny Yarborough fighting in UFC and he was easily beaten. I'm sure some Sumo fighters are more agile or stronger but you have to have so many other skills to compete these days. I don't know if Sumo fighters strength train or not. Maybe someone else knows.

Like you said, they're flexible and it is an art form, I'm sure. Although it seems to be just two fat guys pushing each other with their bellies, I'm guessing there are hidden subtle aspects not necessarily obvious. I'd be interested in learning how this evolved into a sport. Not sure if it has any real martial application.
