Considering it's your birthday AND Valentine's day, I think you did the right thing by speaking up. Otherwise, you'd have just resented his being gone, which doesn't help a relationship. As for boyfriend - he's a guy, and you have to help them along 98% of the time... so always be sure to remind them of things in advance. It's not that they don't care, most of the time - they just don't place the same importance on it that women do.

I think spending Valentine's alone is the issue more than your birthday, I don't think you have any right to be angry if it was just your birthday.

A big question here is: why did he ask his mates to postpone the trip? Maybe he had work commitments, but its a bit sad that all his friends will be away for Valentines, especially when it is his first with you.

I'm not sure of the answer to this one, but I think you had a right to let him know you were upset about him being away at this time. From the way you put it he weighed up his options and chose you, so be happy!

No you are not a horrible person to want to be with your boyfriend on your birthday. After all it is suppose to be a special day for you as well as for him. So the bad news is that perhaps something is going on with him that may end your relationship real soon, Or he is really taking you for granted. So either way if I were you I would prepare myself for some really bad new. Because the love and mutual respect does not seem to be present in your relationship. So good luck and I hope the next man you choose will offer you a real love and and tons of respect..........

I doubt he meant to hurt you. Sometimes couples each have different priorities, that's all. In the big scheme of things, it isn't really that big a deal in my opinion. There are much bigger problems to have than just missing a birthday. Maybe you can celebrate before or after instead.

Well, if he changed his plans just to miss your birthday then, yes, you should be angry. If his plans had to be changed for another reason though, you should not be angry. You sound young (no offense) and you can have another special day together. You should be happy for you boyfriend going on a fun trip.

whether he should have gone on his trip or not...i don't know.....but it was awfully considerate of him to cancel his trip for you...i hope you appreciate it......you ask if you have a right ot be upset....everyone has a right to feeel however they feel....there's nothing right or wrong about feelings...i think that most people would probably have been disappointed as well

Sounds like if he doesn't respect your birthday then you need a new boyfriend.

Don't feel bad. He should've put your birthday first from the beginning. No, you weren't wrong in my opinion.
