I have a 2year old and am currently 6months pregnant. I let family and very close friends baby sit for my daughter. Some more times than others and some never again. Even though they are family as a mother you always(I do anyway) seem to get a vibe, a feeling about how that person deals with the situation. With some people I have no concerns or worries about leaving my daughter with them and with others they have looked after her once and never again. Its strange to say but if you don't trust someone then it doesn't matter who they, family or not, It takes a lot for a mother to leave her child in the first place and if you can't or don't trust the person all you do is worry the whole time your apart from your child so it make the time apart a mission and not a time of relaxation. Hope this helps.xx

Because my mother-in-law is probably the most evil person I've ever met in my life. She was an absolute terror as a mother to her own children (all of her children, as well as her brothers and sisters, have disowned her) and I wouldn't want my children exposed to this woman's craziness. I wish I had a great mother-in-law but I don't. However, if she were a good person, I'd let her watch my children.

well... i down right FORBID my mother-in-law to even see my children when my youngest child was 18 months old, we were in a bad accident (baby and myself) and my daughter was flown to a hospital about 60 miles away. my mother took care of my other children so i could stay with the baby in the hospital. my mother-in-law offered to come to the house and help us the day our daughter came home. WELL, the day we were bringing our daughter home my mother-in-law never showed up. One of her daughters (my sister-in-law) showed up later to see how we were doing and said her mother (my mother-in-law) didn't come because she was invited to PICK BEANS with her other daughter & granddaughters... THEN my mother-in-law didn't even have the decency to call until TWO WEEKS after we came home. WELL, by that time i had decided that my "mother-in-law" didn't care if my daughter lived or died. she didn't show any respect for such a fragile life... my daughter couldn't walk for months... it was the most horrifying thing i have ever experienced and i was let down in a big way by my mother-in-law. AM I WRONG to keep my children from her? I DON'T THINK SO!

My mother-in-law babysits my 3 year old twin daughters every Monday. She has done this since they were babies and I had to return to work. They love going there. She has had them over night on many occasions. She has them from 9am and she always gives them their supper and baths them before they come home at 8pm. Their daddy brings them home in their PJ's and we put them straight into be. I'm grateful for all the help and support my family and friends give me.

I love for my mother in law to babysit...
We don't always get along but she would never hurt any of her grandchildren.

I would too.
I know some women who are funny about it - they don't think their partner's mum would be as good at it as their own mum. Sort of understandable that women trust their own mums the most, but at the same time, their mother-in-law brought up their own children, one of whom they have just had a baby with, so if they think he's okay, then a lot of it's probably down to his mum.

Thats so funny! Its a mother-in-law thing, not a lot of people like there mother-in-laws we'd much rather leave it with a member of our own family like our own mother or sis. (it makes it worse when they try to tell you how to bring your child up!!)

Well, for one she lives in the states and we live in Japan. Even if we did live near her I wouldn't have her babysit because she is battling lung cancer. She doesn't need the added stress of watching my kids.
