"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."
--Buddha
I wish more religions included quotes like that in them... not any of this nonsense like "Believe everything I say or burn forever!"

Well, there are several religions that worship the same God and he is the Only God. The people that worship him and do as he has told us to do by accepting his Son, Jesus Christ are the only ones that will be delivered out of hell. We would not even be here if this was not true. Others worship Satan which has many shapes sizes, body's, ect. He is full of beauty. He can take any form and is worshiped by all that do not worship the One True God. I would say that one of the biggest ways that Satan is worshiped is in the form of money.

Despite the fact that I don't understand most religions, I actually think there is a need for them in this world. We need moral guidelines in our lives. Even though I consider myself to be non-religious, I still follow a lot of the same principles that religions do. For example, I don't lie, cheat, kill or steal.
I agree that it is unfortunate that people believe that their religions are the only correct religions or offer the only true way. Surprisingly, most religions all share common aspects like heaven, hell, good, evil, sin, forgiveness and treating other people the way you want to be treated. Despite the commonalities, people just seem to be unable to get over themselves and accept someone else for who they are.
Personally, I believe that when I die, my body will turn into fertilizer. One day, I'll even prove it. Since that is the only truth that I can prove, I'm not going to judge anyone else for their beliefs because they'll rot the same way I will once they expire.
The only certainty in life is that it will end one day. Wouldn't it be awful if instead of enjoying it, we waisted all of our time arguing about who's invisible all-powerful being was the real invisible all-powerful being

This is exactly what satan would want you to believe. Can you imagine what it would be like if there was no discipline in this world at all? At least with the bible there is some sort of moral conduct and reserving peace for all who believe. This world is full enough of hatred and conflict, if it takes the bible to help those of us who believe then why would you want it thrown out. Jesus was already thrown out of the schools and well now look whats happening. I don't ever remember a day in my school days that there was shootings and and sexual misconduct as seen today. I think it has something to do with the fact that the entire school prayed every morning before classes started. The principal would come on the intercom and everyone would stand and a prayer would be said. I believe it helped alot of students get through the day.
Why do people who don't understand always want to get rid of the only decent thing on this earth? And no we do not worship the same god - our God is a God of love - other gods are gods of hatred and self destruction. Our God teaches love & forgiveness - the other god teaches hate & immorality.

Religion arises out of the necessity to understand a universe that escapes our comprehension because of its profound and ordered complexity. Religion has in the best periods of human civilization acted to complement our scientific understanding of natural phenomena. It can and does seek to provide answers to questions that are too difficult for science to answer. By presenting a set of guidelines and rituals as a balance against the destructive side of human nature, the world's religions have successfully held humanity more or less from collapsing into chaos and barbarism.

Is there truth outside of ourselves and our own thoughts and opinions? If there is, I want to know what it is. I want to align my life with the TRUTH, not with man's ideas and ponderings. Should I throw away the Word of God in order to have peace? Is peace, then the highest value, valued even over truth?
That said, I am not a promoter of conflict. The Bible teaches us to speak the truth in love, a command that is often ignored. We are also told to keep peace as much as it depends on as as Christians. I believe that it is very possible to hold to the word of God and live at peace much of the time, but start asking people to toss out their Bibles, and you will start a war for sure. You are asking people to discard the God's revealed Word. Most Christians don't take that lightly.

If you are a God believer, how were you drawn near to Him?
Good if God communicates, guides you directly that you don`t need help from the people who study the foundations of belief.
Try direct communications to the spirits` of the God with purity in heart. If He sense your curiosity and honest intentions in knowing Him, He himself will reach your grasping hand.
If you felt failure, The God is uncommunicative...then I think you lack preparations. You will be guided by any discussions from any religions. Try to read as many principles/dogmas of belief, in many religion...and compare.
If it speaks of LOVE, PEACE, HARMONY, HELPING one another then you`re on true one good way towards Him.
And also, this said religion should dispel hatred, pride, destructions, vengeance, competitiveness, lies, cheating, judgemental, killings, etc.
Religion can help you provide good reading materials on identifying the true God and what should you do to advance in knowing Him well.
God don`t need too much worshippings and adulations...He just wants to save you from condemnation and have your spirit with Him in eternity.
So, actually, your only role for the moment in regards to God....
...is...purify yourself, take out your sins, so that , His spirit can live in your body and you`ll be guided yourself whole life. So, no need for you to be confused in many religions.
God do not separate/divide His people, it is the selfish ulterior motive of the people that pull each one down.
So, be careful !!!

No, mankind WOULD NOT be better off without religion.
Religions teach us to be better people and to hold on to ideals to sacrifice for each other and for your fellow neighbor for the greater good.
(I would disagree with you about your perspective about the "one true way". There's nothing wrong with any religion claiming it's the one true way, because why would you follow *ANY* religion if you didn't think it was the "one true way"? That being said, it should always be a choice to CHOOSE this way and should never be enforced on anyone.) Hope that helps, God bless. ^_^

What we currently know as "religion" is already too outdated. To expect modern people to live and behave like nomads, or warriors or begging mendicants is just impractical.
The essence of religion is still needed, but the krap Politics, Power ursurping, Control, Guilt trips and Mind games that come with a lot ( not all ) of our modern day's incarnations of religions, I think the world can do without....
I mean like Who Cares if Mary Magdalene was Jesus wife or not... but are we Loving and Caring like Christ was? Who cares if some cartoonist drew an "idol" of a holy one.... but are we as discipline and devoted as he in commiting to prayer 5 times a day? Who cares if one denomination or faction worships different from us... do we REALLY THINK insultingthem, killing them or harming them will REALLY PLEASE the Divine Being? If so... what kind of Divine is it?
Bottom line....
Religion's essence MUCH NEEDED
but
Religious Politics and Power krap - Off to ze pits wif zit!! There is enough off that without adding Spiritual politics to the world....
At least the materialistic and worldly ones don't hide that they are mean and nasty...:)

Only if replaced with an honest system of moral ethical and intelligent design able to teach the young and help maintain the rest for the ongoing embodiment of a better unfettered society.
don't throw away your tained texts yet ;cause they serve as perfect examples of the kind of verbal fascism and deceit one should be aware of for a more free and happy life. Let the spirit of truth reign for mankind and forgive the justified lies of the past.

Religion as the way the world sees it, yes we would be better off without it. To say we would be better off without God, is like moving out and leaving your parents at the moment you learn to walk. Chances are you, you will die.
In the same way, not accepting God's guidance and love, like any parent's, only leads to one thing.....death. We are nothing more or less than His children.
The world is then lost without God, so we need Him more than the other way around.
