Gossamer Albatross crossed the English channel, 22 miles. Makes 10.8 Km look a bit poor, but way more than I could do.
You'd think in the years since the Albatross crossed the channel that developments in materials would have allowed a more practical plane to be built, but it's never going to be a 100 seat plane with only the pilot at the pedals.

yes it has been done several times using lightweight winged craft with a bicycle driven propeller.
