You can love so many people in your life but true love is a rare commodity.

This is a hard question, because there are different levels of love. However I have "loved" two people. My first love, which lasted 3 years and the loss of my virginity. And another who I haven't even slept with. He and I must have been soul mates in another life, because we just clicked, but the timing was never right. And even though I am now married with children, and haven't spoken to him for 5 years, there's not a day that I don't think about him and wonder what if......?

I am assuming you mean romantically. It is strange, because everytime I care about someone new, it happens so differently that I start to question exactly what emotion I felt with my previous lover. I have had 3 major relationships, my current one, and 2 that lasted about 2 years each. I am not sure if I have ever loved, for a number of reasons. 1.) I do not stay good friends with my ex's, in fact I tend to realize we don't connect that well. 2.) I have emotional issues regarding trust and intimacy that have not been resolved. 3.) I have yet to meet someone that meets my enough of my expectations (which are quite reasonable, by the way) Maybe I have only been infatuated, because of these things, I have intense, passionate feelings of adoration that always fade, and without them I cannot seem to sustain a relationship. This is actually kind of a depressing conclusion! Wow.

My first love was when I was 16, which was something beyond the 'catch and kiss' mentality associated with being in your teens. That ended due to me leaving the country.

The next time I 'fell in love' was in my late-teens and early-20's, at a time when I was consolidating my 'adult' identity. That ended due to a miscommunication and fizzling out.

After that, I think I coasted through to my mid-20's where I fell head-over-heels in love with a really good friend. Totally bad-timing and oversensitivity meant that never started, and ended abruptly due to a 'well meaning' friend poisoned the waters.

Next love - the mother of my child - was from my late-20's to early-30's. For a while it was perfect, and I love every moment of being with her. Then it all turned sour, I got hurt very badly, and we went our seperate ways.

Now, I'm 34, a single father to an adventurous five year old and the count stands at '4' (so far). I'm looking forward to him starting school, me getting back into work, and hoping to start some semblance of a personal life again...

I've loved only one woman in my entire life; my wife. The other 300 were just for fun.
