I have an audition for LAMDA (drama school) on Saturday and I have the worst cold. The sneezing and coughing...I'm sure I can work into the monologues. But my throat really hurts and I can't really project. Need to sort it out. HELP PLEASE!

There are throat lozenges that contain anti-bacterials (I don't know of any that contain anti-virals), that treat as well as soothe.

I used to be a session singer and I know how you feel! Once you get to drama school you'll learn this trick but I'll tell you now to make sure you get there. Crush some ice, (or if you can tolerate it, chew an ice cube into bits.) When it is ALMOST melted, swallow it as slowly as you can, almost letting it drip down your throat. Do this several times in an hour or so and you will probably find that your throat becomes a lot less sore amazingly quickly. If your throat is still sore on the big day, fill a thermos flask with ice and take it with you so you can have some a short while before you have to perform. If you aare planning to sing make sure you do a thorough vocal warm up after you've had the ice to make sure you can produce a loud enough noise! I've known several well known actors and singers who always raid the freezer for a sore throat. Good luck!

Good luck, as someone who has had a lot to do with drama students etc they will take it into account but that doesn't help you. People have their own pet remedies I dissolve a fizzy Vitamin C and a dispersible/soluble aspirin in a glass of water. It works just fine. In France if you ask for Vitamin C it often comes already mixed with aspirin! Next get someone to lok at the back of your throat. If it is slightly red tough, if it is very red look for some white bits of pus. If you see them it is bacteriological and try and get to the docotr's for an antibiotic. No white stuff? Just plug on with the vitamin C and aspirin. Best wishes.

Cold-Eeze lozenges as directed
Colgate's Peroxyl mouth rinse gargled 2-3 times daily
Vitamin C 4 grams daily in divided doses (less if loose stools occur).
Echinacea helps stimulate immunity and hasten recovery
Get as much rest as possible and drink 4-8 ounces of water with a little lemon juice in it every 2-3 hours.
Good luck from an old frustrated thespian!

I'm not a singer or actor but I do believe that if you gargle Listerine after you've gargled warm salted water, you will get relief.
The salted water is a healing agent and the Listerine soothes and anticepticizes (new word!) your throat.
Break a leg!

I use Vicks Chloraseptic spray for a sore throat. It numbs the pain pretty well and they have different flavors. Another option is cough drops, like Sudafed. Hope you feel better, good luck!

Try Betadine Mouth wash. Gargle with it. It really is good and suck some strepsils on the day. That has a numbing effect. Good Luck

To soothe, try drinking some rooibos tea with honey in it.... always helps me. Then, gargle with some luke warm salt water to disinfect your throat and buy some lozenges to suck on.... Good luck for your audition!!!

Using a spay may help but the best by far is to gargle with salt water... it kills the infection and for me works a lot quicker and cheaper
