DO you think the goverment should mandate companys to offer paid maternity leave for women? Some company's do, but not very many, I know the company I work for offers maternity leave but it is unpaid and it is hard on the new mom and family to not work. But who would foot the bill? The company or the goverment which would be a new tax for us? And I know it is hard to find safe and affordable daycare now adays also and being a stay at home parent for many isn't an option. and how long do you think the Leave should be for if it is paid?

I would like to see companies provide paid maternity leave as one of their benefits. The government should not force a business to give paid maternity leave. Then government has to much say-so in what businesses do as it is. It would be better not to tax the businesses, or the employees so much so that the employers could pay the employees better to start with. If the employee was paid what they are already due before being over -taxed. Without adding more taxes to the ones we already have just to have a business, and also to be employed, the increase in pay due to less taxation on business would be substantial, to say the least. Then it would be up to us to make the choice of how much maternity leave we can afford to take, not up to the government. The daycare option would also be decided by the individual based on the larger amount of money received by them, and not taken from us by the government through so many taxes; and then politicians deciding who gets how much time for maternity leave and deciding which daycare they approve of instead of the parent getting to decide.

Well I think everyone should save up their vacation/sick/personal time like I've been doing, to pay thier own maternity leave. I've been saving up and I already have 8 weeks and I'm not even pregnant yet. So by the time I am, I'll have my 12 weeks paid. I do, however, think you should be able to take 6 months off, that would be so much better! But I guess 12 weeks is okay.

NO. i don't think it should be paid. a person can "bank" their sick leave and their vacation. Men are also allowed to take maternity leave. my husband has been saving his sick time and vacation time for 2 years to save up for this... not to mention he works all of the overtime they offer him on a daily basis so i can be a stay at home mom to our other kids. He's a good man that takes very good care of his family... and he's ALWAYS planning ahead for our futures... he's a good example for other men/ couples... big events need to have proper planning. NOTHING in life worth having ever came easily and certainly not for FREE!

yes the government should mandate paid maternity leave.only some capitalists who have no moral values and want to earn profits deny that paid maternity leave. the unions in that company have to take up the cause of the women and they can approach courts also.
