The world is becoming more rude

2006-11-13 19:17:26 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

I think chefs are becoming more rude now, especially some of those presenting shows on television.

A local chef near here, threw a carving knife at a female worker because she did not move quick enough picking up a food plate, it sure is getting scary that more chefs are becoming more rude.

I think chefs have always been very temperamental, I am a head chef and have been told many many times that I am extremely easy going for a chef, not sure if that's good or bad LOL, but I think that a lot of the time it's the pressures of the job and often working in a hot sticky environment to tight timescales that brings out the fiery side in somebody.
Years ago you would often see something fly across the kitchen if somebody wasn't up to speed or their work wasn't up to scratch, nowadays it's a lot less as company's are afraid of workers suing them so have rained in the more fiery individuals. But for the likes of Gordon Ramsey who has an absolute passion for cooking it would be impossible to bring him under control and to be perfectly honest why would you anybody trained by him would be of the highest standard and you know what you are going to get when you start working for him. "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen"

i am quite insulted by some of the answers given, i am a chef and i am neither rude or violent! granted that a lot of chefs (mainly head chefs) are but i think ur making a stereotype of the profession. some people lack the necessary skills to get the things they want without being abusive.

Chefs have always been rude. I used to work in kitchens. They're just getting more air-time now, so you're seeing it more.

Although, I do think the world in general is becoming more rude

Apparently there is a condition called 'Chef's Syndrome' which makes them throw things around and generally be horrid to their fellow kitchen workers.l blame tv chefs for making all chefs think they are something great because they can cook, you don't have to be a genius to be able to cook!!!

the more we make celebrities out of people/professions, the fatter the egos get in some cases. but people will be people, and as % things have probably not changed much over the years, there's just more of them and more people know more of them.
