This is without being drug induced also... I am not talking about your crank addict.

I simply got a graveyard job and am going to school and have a very small social life... anyway are there long term drawbacks or health problems assoiciated with not getting enough sleep?

Everyones sleep pattern is different: People who are 'Larks' are up before the sun, yet half asleep around 9pm. Those who are 'Owls' are the life and soul of the party well into the early hours, but are like the living dead if forced to get out of bed before 11am or later. Some people need a lot of sleep, while others can manage on 3 or 4 hours. There really is no good or bad concerning sleep. Provided no drugs are used, and you feel all right, your body and mind will let you know when to sleep and when to be awake.

your body does need recuperation time. The cells rebuild when we are in a restful state. Provided you maintain a healthy diet and get reasonable excercise, there is no real reason why you cant train your body to a two day cycle. You would have to break the natural circadian rythm in which you body insists that it should sleep in the dark, but the main drawback would be tiredness - as long as you had enough time in total to recuperate.

If you do it long enough you can get a bit psychotic but a good nights rest and the body recovers. Long term it can stress the body out and lower your immune system and lead to exhaustion but short term is quite safe, sometimes it even gets you a good high even if it is followed by a massive low.

Yes because it will promote aging faster than normal because a good rest is needed by our cells to regenerate faster and without enough sleep will weaken your immune sytem so you become succeptible to diseases. If you observe people who always sleep late has a mature face even though they are still young. Sleeping is a key to a healthy body.
I almost forgot lack of sleep also leads to poor decision making.

Oh yea, it is a very bad thing to not get sleep. You put yourself at risk for accidents. You will find it hard to focus at school and retain information. Try to get as many naps in as possible if you cannot allow yourself to get your full 8 hours. You also make yourself voulnerable to getting sick. Sleep is a very important part of life without it we cannot function.

There are many health-related issues that have to do with sleep deprivation. It is also frequently said that a sleepy driver is far more dangerous than a drunken one. one source about the need for sleep can be found at www.sleepfoundation.org

you need sleep, without it you get confused, slow reflexes. Just working the graveyard shift takes 10yrs off your life from the getgo. I work the graveyard shift also.

Well it's not good, your organism needs the sleep to recover, but if you don't have an other choice, and if you are healthy and strong, you could do it, just be sure afterwards you have time to rest!
