General recovery will be a week or two, but you'll probably be on a "no heavy lifting, no driving" restriction for at least a month, depending upon your doctor

How long will you be in the hospital?
Once a diet is tolerated, patients leave the hospital. Most patients go home the next day after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Some may even go home the same day the operation is performed. This compares with a five day stay following the open cholecystectomy procedure.

What is the recovery period and how soon can you go back to work?
Patients will probably be able to get back to normal activities within a week's time, including driving, walking up stairs, light lifting and work. Activity is dependent on how the patient feels. Walking is encouraged. Patients can remove the dressings and shower the day after the operation. In general, recovery should be progressive, once the patient is at home.

Most patients are fully recovered and may go back to work after seven to ten days.
Often, this depends on the nature of your job since patients who perform manual labor or heavy lifting may require two to four weeks of recovery.

What should you be concerned about after going home?
The development of fever, yellow skin or eyes, worsening abdominal pain, distention, persistent nausea or vomiting, or drainage from the incision are indications that a complication may have occurred. You should contact your surgeon under these circumstances.

It is really not bad anymore. They had intentions of doing it laproscopically, but a problem came up and they had to make an incision. But, overall it was not that bad. Depending that as long as everything goes as expected, it should take about a week. They are doing these surgeries routinely and on an out patient basis now. You might want to ask that they keep you just one night just as a measure for pain management and rest, but overall expect about a weeks recovery.. Good Luck

I just had my removed 4 days ago. I had it done laporscopic and have 5 holes in my belly ( well 4 in my belly and one in my side ) I am still sore but am able to walk and do some housework. I went home the same day. Just make sure you get up and take short walks around your house after you get home this has really helped me and don't lift anything that is over 5 pounds. I should be back to work in a few weeks but won't know for sure until I go back to see the doctor. Good Luck..

I went home the same day, and took it easy the next twenty four hours. I was careful getting in and out of bed but other then that, I resumed my regular household chores.. It was really a piece of cake. I was thrilled. It is one pain,I would never want again.( Gall stones, I mean!) Best of luck, I hope all goes well for you too.
I drove the next day. No problem.

I had mine that way. what people have said our correct but I have a tip for you. When you have the surgery they have to fill your belly up with gas so that it literally blows up like a balloon to get in under the liver to get to it. The biggest problem I had was not the little stitches but trying to get rid of al the gas afterwords. Do yourself a huge fervor and the first night roll over as much as possible so that the gas starts to move out. As soon as you possibly can get out of bed and start walking slowly but getting activity. You will find it helps remove the gas much faster and you will be so glad you did it.

Without any complications you should be able to return to work/normal life within a day or two. I had mine removed on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. Not much discomfort and probably could have gone back earlier.
