Yes and no, you have to come to terms with what ever it is that is your trigger, and work on that until you can go though the situation with out slashing. I have known people would slash, then sew themselves up with a needle and thread. For alot of people it the urge to make the pain match what they feel in the mind.
But it like any other addiction, you will most likely always have the urge to slash, but you wouldn't act on it. Deal with your triggers.
Talk to a counselor at school or where ever, your not alone.

I battled with cutting for several years. I know exactly what you're feeling right now. The only way to get away from it is to get away from the things in your life that are causing you to want to cut. If you are depressed, you need to figure out exactly why you are depressed and fix it. It was the hardest thing i've ever done to stop cutting, and i still have days where i want to again. when you get the craving to cut, try doing something else. read a book, draw, write, go to the store, anything to get your mind on something else. that's what i found worked the best for me. talking to people can help, but it has to be someone who you trust unconditionally. i also wrote a lot of poetry during that time. that seemed to help, it was a good release. i really hope you find a way to get yourself out of this, and i hope i helped at least a little. Good luck!!!

I hope you are getting counseling. There is a reason you are cutting. Work on dealing with the issues eating you inside out.
You have to replace one habit with another habit. A healthy habit that is.
Never let yourself get too hungry, too lonely or too tired.
Even if you have to come here to yahoo to ask or answer questions it is a better habit than cutting.
You need to take baby steps to stop this and if you fail one day, then you don't give up.
Also retrain your brain self talk. You have things like tapes or CD's that you play over and over again in your brain. Identify those things then when you start that thinking you STOP and reprogram your internal dialog.
Take good care of yourself. You have more power in your heart and mind than you realize.

Well sometimes,
Most of the time people cut them selves because there mad or upset about something. However it might be signs of depression. This might mean you need medication. Or theorapy. My sister went through it.

This is a very good blog, a beginner’s guide to abnormal psychology.
Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in

only if one figures out how to stop them themself. There's always a reason for it, the person just needs to examine themselves and their situation and figure out why, and change!
