Seriously.
It's almost as silly as hearing fathers "babysitting" their own kids!
Shame on those Moms for letting their men get away with that non-sense.
And the first answerer is just the type of idiot we're talking about.

i'm 17 weeks pregnant and i am a stay at home mom to my husband's 2 nearly grown children, 18 & 14 (from a prior marriage).

i plan to change EVERY diaper myself... unless i'm in the middle of dinner or something. my husband is a hard worker and never complains about his responsibilities to his family. sometimes i don't think we appreciate him enough. He even works one day of overtime each week so I can stay home with the kids. He has said he plans to help with everything when the babies born. He is even taking 6 weeks off work. I really want to do more to show my love and respect for the things he does for each of us on a daily basis by taking on routine household/family responsibilities... like changing diapers! i want to let him enjoy the FUN things the baby will have to offer and take care of the less desireable things.

I would never make a big deal out of my husband changing, or not changing diapers... i don't really get all of the fuss either.

I never found changing diapers a big deal at all, so I didn't care whether or not my husband changed any (which worked out since out of three children in diapers at different times he only changed a diaper once when I was out, and our toddler soaked his diaper so badly it started to fall off).

No, it isn't a big deal at all for father's to change their own children's diapers; but because there is such a thing as father's who just don't ever do that task, apparently, its a bigger deal than one would think it ought to be.

My husband doesn't mind changing diapers. He gets teased about it, his dad has even called him "hen-pecked" because of it. It's just the differences in the generations. The generation before ours, the men worked, the women handled the house and child rearing. That's just the way it was. Our generation is a little more equal minded. And that's a good thing!

Keep up the good work! I'm sure your wife is pleased to have a keeper! I know I am.

nowadays, dads R actually supposed to help out in everything especially if mom works outside the house. the load needs to be shared so none of the parents is overwhelmed by the daily duties. unfortunately, some men stil think that this is a woman's job and not all dads r like u! which is y women r happy when their hubbies actually do help!

Yes it is a big deal because up until about 15 years ago most men didn't "do diapers". It was always a "woman's" job. I applaud you for chaing your kid's diapers.

Yes your absolutely correct. While it should be normal there are a few cavemen that believe this is womens work. You know "We dont know nutthin bout birthin no babies Miss Scarlet". Men are very capable parents when given the chance. As a single father I do the best I can for my children. I just wish the American leagal system were less prejudice against single fathers.

I think if a man wants to change his OWN CHILD"S diaper there is absolutely nothing wrong with it and anyone who thinks different thats their opinion, we have 3 children, 2 princes and 1 princess the only time daddy will change them without a fight is when he is the ONLY one around he even paid his sister $1 to change a prince before because he did'nt want too. you go ahead and change them if you are man enough. :)

I sometimes hear the same thing and laugh. I've heard "My husband has been so wonderful by helping with the kids" quite often and I shake my head. How is that men are all of a sudden so wonderful by taking care of their own kids? LOL

Yeah, but then there are men who think that women do all the changing. To me it is 50/50, i mean half of you created the kid so shouldn't you both share the work that it takes to raise the child? I glad to hear a guy asking this... but typically you hear this as a result of sterotypical typesetting of gender roles.!
