Fresh cilantro and lime sounds great, leave out the BBQ sauce, it will smother the taste of the shrimp. Try 1st Time Momma's idea of wrapping the shrimp in bacon but partially cook it in a pan to remove some of the fat to prevent flare ups on the grill, as always with shrimp DO NOT OVERCOOK!

If you only must include bar-b-cue sauce, then I would have to say, throw it in the trash!
Look, go get you some collasol shrimp( 1/2 pound or more each) then split their back, butterfly style; contact me for more info, Fill immediately with whole( or large) crab meat. Put on the grill for appr. 10 sec. while that is searing, immediately brush with a mixture of real butter(lightly salted), garlic(freshly minced with a hint of salt), And squeeze one whole lemon across the entire product.
If you wish to skewer, now is the time to remove from grill and do your stuff, most grills come with a second upper level, which allows you to keep warm, yet not overcook, place them and squeeze another lemon.
Lemon, Garlic, Butter, If you need a real recipe for this particular sauce( which is exquisite, feel free to contact me), That's all you need to know for the best shrimp in the ocean or on the palate.
Choose a familiar white wine to either flamb'e or to cleanse the palate.
I'm sorry, I wet my tongue!!!!

Your suggestion sounds really good.

Have you ever tried wrapping the shelled shrimp in bacon and brushing them with BBQ Sauce?

You could also try marinading the shelled shrimp for about 2 to 4 hours in a ziploc bag with olive oil, white wine, rosemary, pepper, basil and dried onion. Then grill them.

You are absolutely on the right track. A nice variation is to replace the BBQ sauce with Teriyaki sauce. Also great is to add some fresh pressed garlic.
Luscious. Happy Dining. Good Luck.

I have the flue. My stomach is turning circles. Your question makes me want to puke. Sorry, but it just does not sound good.
Now, grilled shrimp sounds great.
