If she has got a 3.0 in school in the last year then she should be eligible for a good student discount. Also, put her under your policy so she get the multicar discount & auto/home (if applicable). She also gets to use your credit score. Here are some other factors that impact your rates:

Deductible: This is the amount of money that you pay out of your own pocket if you get in an accident

Age: Younger, less experienced drivers have higher insurance rates.

Gender: Men have higher rates than women.

Demographics: People living in high-crime areas pay more than those living in low-crime areas.

Claims: Accident-prone drivers pay more. If you want to keep your rates low, keep the number of claims that you file to a minimum.

Moving Violations: Speeding and other moving violations all have a negative impact on your insurance bill. Obey the law to help keep your rates from rising.

Vehicle Choice: Sports cars cost more to insure than sedans, and expensive cars cost more to insure than cheap ones do. Looking into the cost of insurance before you purchase that new car could help you save a bundle on your car insurance.

Driving Habits: The number of miles that you drive, whether or not you use your car for work, and the distance between your home and work all play a role in determining your rates.

Theft Deterrent Systems: If you have an alarm on your car, you'll pay less to insure your vehicle.

Safety Devices: Air bags and anti-lock brakes both work in your favor by keeping you safer and lowering your insurance bill.

Accident Prevention Training: Some companies offer discounts if you take a driver's education training course.

Multiple Policies: If you have more than one car and/or also have homeowner or renter's insurance, keep in mind that many insurance companies offer discounts based on the number of policies that you have with them.

Payment Plan: Some insurance companies offer discounts based on your payment plan. Paying your entire yearly bill at one time, instead of in installments, may lead to a discount.

Credit Score: Good credit lowers your car insurance rates. Bad credit increases them.

First, what state are you in, other than shock? You might try going online and shopping around for her insurance. Otherwise, try putting her on YOUR insurance, as well as her car. Then, you just might save a little $$ on the total bill. Of course, if she's a total maniac driver (like most 18-year-olds) then you might just consider putting her into your state's insurance pool program. Your agent can do that, and she will be assigned to a company that is required by law to take her at the state assigned risk rate.

My experience has been it was cheaper for my parents to get a seperate policy for me and my vehicle rather than piggybacking me on their policy. I currently pay 122$ a month, with various safe driver discounts from taking drivers ed, road saftey courses, etc. Initially, my father was paying 190-200$ to piggyback me. A few months later, he took out a seperate policy with just me on the policy, which reduced it to 160$-ish. My policy should be dropping to a more sane rate this coming year after my birthday, thankfully.

You don't say where you live....city or country...Your best bet would be to add her to your existing policy....Will she have her own car ? Many questions need to be answered to give you a good response......Has she ever had a ticket ? Has she completed Drivers Ed. ? Grades in school ? Is she still in school ?
