about 4-5 guys enters your house at night with knives and berettas, you wakes up and grabs your own gun, they take cover behide your plasma TV and couch and gets into a fire fight and they are about 50 feet away, now which hand gun would suit this situation better, a Deagle, or a Glock?

First off..... Cover vs concelment. Cover will stop a bullet. Concelment just hides you from view. A couch is concelment.......

Next, 4-5 vs you? Bad odds, & I would be thinking , "who did I piss off, slept with or what drug dealers car got scratched?"

Last. My first weapon of choice is my Carbine rather than the pistol. My .30 carbine hits harder than the hand gun & the long barrel & 30 round mag has more of a scare factor to the bad guys. Also handy to whack folks up close with the butt or to deflect a knife thrust. Overall, since most bad guys can't shoot well or srpay & pray I think you have a chance. Drop the leader, the rest will chicken out.

Go with a glock in 9mm, 40 S&W, or .45ACP. The only objects in the average home that will stop these bullets are a toilet and an old steel bath tub. They will zip right through sheet rock and furniture. Refrigs, washers, and dryers will slow down but not stop bullets these bullets. A glock in these calibers offer moderate recoil for faster follow up shots. Important when against multiple people. As for effectiveness, you are not sacrificing effectiveness by going with the .40 or .45. Opinions may differ on the 9mm, but I think its a great bullet. With the .50AE or .44 Mag desert eagle all you get is more recoil, less bullets per mag, and more noise. The .357 mag desert eagle is in the same power class as the glock calibers. The glock is about half the price of the desert eagle. The desert eagle is best for impressing people on the range. On a side note. A glock goes for about the same price as on AK-47 and the desert eagle goes for around the price of an M-16/AR-15. Both are better for the situation you describe. Sorry but I won't touch a, which is better AK-47 / M-16 debate.

Ideally it would be a shotgun with 00 buckshot. If you can't
have that then, a sub-machine gun or a rifle in .223, assuming you can hit them.

For a hand gun with those berettas I wouldn't take cover behind stuff the 9mm might go through stuff. But, I would use a .45acp 1911, hit them right, while they throw away their bullets like nothing else.

This is not an ideal situation for a handgun or shotgun or rifle. You need more people or better cover. A submachine gun or rifle will have too much blast and light destroying night vision. The shotgun would be the best. Assuming its a handgun, desert eagles are hard in combat, they are heavy, and not durable in the sense of other pistols, plus the noise and muzzle flash is bad. The Glock isn't much better, the light weight will keep it harder to stay on target, while the blast and flash is bad from the .45 and 10mm and the .40 will still destroy your night vision, unless you are used to it or were up for awhile before you were roused. Get the short HK G36 not even the K it is even shorter as it is a replacement for a submachine gun in CTU and SWAT teams, but is in .223 and get a 50 round drum magazine and just lay on the trigger, use FMJs or APR with a JHP mix and they will go down. Plus, it would be pretty terrifying to have that open up on them. But, seriously a shotgun would outgun them pretty well, stay covered and take your shots. After the first guy down they will probably flee, unless they are a hardcore hit team, or a gang expecting it.

Bound's hubby here:

First off, 50 feet is not close enough in a fire fight to employ a handgun. Your best bet would be a 12 guage pump action shotgun with deer barrel loaded with 00 buckshot (plug removed). Each shell carries 9 32 caliber balls moving at about 800 feet per second. That would equal, roughly, 45 bullets against the Glock's 19. Only a senseless fool goes up against a shotgun.

As an aside... if the scenario you described took place in New Jersey, you would be prosecuted for murder because it does not qualify as a self-defense scenario. You have not retreated the premises. You have not exhausted all avenues of retreat.

With the environment you described, invest in a good alarm system, a good dog and a good pump action shotgun.

Good luck.

I've never fired a Desert Eagle. I've heard they can malfunction. Even if that is not true, the larger Eagles (.44 Magnum, .50AE) would probably create too much of a 'flash' which could blind the shooter temporarily & take longer to recover for a follow-up shot due to the Eagle's recoil.

A Glock Model 19 (.9mm) through Model 20 (.10mm) would be a superior defensive weapon in the scenario you have described. Even though the Model 20 .10mm with the hotter ammo is as loud and as 'bright' in low-level light as a .44 Mag. I'd favor the Glock. The Glock's reliability is legendary and that, coupled with the large ammo capacity (15 plus one standard in the .10mm Model 20), leads me to select the Glock over the Deagle for any defensive situation I can think of.

In this particular scenerio the smaller .9mm caliber Glock(s) or even the Model 21 in .45acp may serve one even better. You are in your own home and overpenetration (putting loved one in jeapordy) should be a factor.

Glock 20 or 21, plenty of performance and much higher capacity than a DE or a 1911, much more reliable too.

Crazy, i wouldnt even want to start a fire fight, why waste your life just like that, who knows what might happen, they might have guns just as you too, HELL they might even have a semi-auto or a Uzi for all they care,

all those guys want is just your valueables, just give it to them or another good way is to call 911 and tell them to get where you are staying RIGHT AWAY !

Deagle has better penetrating power so they will get hit even through furniture.
