Assalam Alaikum, I live in Australia and I see so many brothers and sisters, mostly young people who call themselves Muslims, they dont pray (or rarely), they drink, they act like kafour, they dress like kafour, and even many will have sexual relations with the kafour, and I have even seen the occassional one EAT PORK!...and when it suits them they will insist they are Muslim....I dont want to be judgemental, but to me it sounds like they are Munafiq, and If I say that to them they get very angry with me...any ideas or opinions? if you are a Muslim living in the West, do you consider yourself a Muslim or a Munafiq?? and why?

For those who don't know:
Munafiq: Hypocrite
Kaafir: Disbeliever

Islam is a way of life.
We should all try our best to follow the noble example of Our Beloved Prophet (PBUH)! We should make dua (supplicate) to Allah to guide those who have gone astray. At the same time, we should think of ourselves as being the worst of sinners and constantly try to improve our self first.

Remember that Allah forgives any sin except associating partners with Him.

You do not know when another persons sincere repentance might be accepted by Allah; and what sin of yours might cause your downfall.

If a person commits a sin and does not justify his sin; but instead seeks forgiveness from Allah for it, Allah the Most Merciful can forgive him.

We are not here to judge others.
Allah is the judge!
May Allah guide and help us all!

They are still Muslims but I dont' think they are a munafiq. Just not a practicing one. These people though ignorant rarely defect to other religion. They will forever declare themselves as Muslims.

You can probably call the terrorist a Munafiq. They claim to be fighting in the name of Islam but are themselves doing something against it.

Musyrikin are non Muslims.

I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, who cheat, etc. but the media projects this as though only Muslims are involved in such activities. There are black sheep in every community.

I know Muslims who are alcoholic and who can drink most of the non-Muslims under the table. Most of the Indian History books mention that Mohammed of Ghaznavi invaded India more that 25 times and looted temples.

He is projected as a sample of how a Muslim is. Very few books mention that he even looted mosques. In fact he should be projected as a sample of a robber. Naturally, since more wealth was found in temples than in mosques, he more often looted the temples than the mosques.

Inspite of all the black sheep in the Muslim community, Muslims taken on the whole, yet form the best community in the world. We are the biggest community of tee-totallers as a whole, i.e. those who don’t imbibe alcohol. Collectively, we are a community which gives the maximum charity in the world.

There is not a single person in the world who can hold a candle to the Muslims where modesty is concerned; where sobriety is concerned; where human values and ethics are concerned.

I can think of two answers for you:
1) there are factions that consider themselves Muslim, even if they don't have any signs of being one (Wahhabi-at for example) and if you read the history you'll find out that they are not original (Wahhabi-at was made by ad English spy and it's fact)
2)you should never judge others, even if they don't look good in your opinion. a great man once said : "don't call people Munafiq or kafour, maybe they are pure of heart and their purity will lower you in the face of Allah" of course this doesn't mean that you shouldn't pray or anything, just don't judge the others, maybe they are just week and nor kafour.
and since you asked, I'm a Muslim, but I live in the east.

"I dont want to be judgemental, but to me it sounds like they are Munafiq"...Do u really think u have the right to even think such thing...i mean who the hell do u think u are to divide people in muslim and munafiq...

We are not given the right to judge anyone by there actions or language...we dont know what good deeds they might be doing. Thats only for Allah to know... so stop worrying about others, do a through analysis of urself first...then beside calling them munafiq try to tell them what they are doing is wrong....or better yet...just LIVE and let LIVE!!!

I give you an example from my country (a muslim country) ; its a very funny story.
There is a town where there are many bars; there are few people who convert to Christianity; so drinking for them is normal. One day there was an earthquake , they went out of the bar afraid and they were saying the shahada !!!!

I am sure that some Christian will say that I am laying and all this bla bla but I swear on Allah that I am saying the truth.

So only Allah knows whats inside ever human and none knows when they go back to the right way.

I am definitely a Muslim, alhumdulillah. It all starts in the home. If their parents set a better example by praying, not drinking, keeping track of what they are wearing, just basically monitering everything they did, believe me, they wouldn't do those things. You can't be a parent when it is convenient. You can't send your kid to the mosque as a last resort when they are teenagers, when you never go, and when you never even mentioned it before that. It all starts when they are little ones. If their parents started training them at that stage, they wouldn't be doing those things. I don't want to call anyone Munafiqin, because we shouldn't judge our fellow muslims that way, only pray for Allah to guide them, and that they will see what they're doing will get them nowhere. Peace brother.

for the most part I have no Idea what you just said, and I am a well read person. I just don't know what a kafour is or a Munafiq. As for them not following their beliefs. I see others doing that and still calling themselves Christan's or Jews.. I pay it no mind

Originally Munafiq does not apply to those common people who strive to make living and who left their country and family to make some living. This word Munafiq really applied to those big shot politicians and sultans because they have two faces like Sultan Muhammad.

Please don’t call anybody Munafic or kafir we don’t have any right to call anybody. as far as their behavior is concern. Of course its against the teaching of islam. But we have no rite to say any thing just one thing we can do is to tell them that they are doing wrong but in very polite manner and not in harsh. And pray God to show them right path. That is the only good thing which we can do for them.
Hope u understand what I want to say?
