Say I invite my boyfriend to eat dinner with me and my family on my birthday...should he pay for his own food or what?

he should certainly offer. but if you feel entitled because you invited him to a particularly expensive restaurant, you grab the check and cough it up, sister.

See if he offers, if he doesn't then you pay. If he does take it as a compliment but you pay anyway since it was an invite. I'm guessing he would probably offer since he wouldn't want to look like a sponge in front of your parents....if he insists just be whatever. Seriously small matter, shouldn't change anything.

You should pay. Who ever does the inviting is responsible. That is how my BF and I do it.

Nope the father should pay, and you shouldn't invite him if pops isn't willing to pay for his meal as well.
