While I am a Christian, I came out to all of my friends, even at church, and let them know that I practice Witchcraft. I would love some advice on how to deal with those who are particularly hurtful in their judgemant and condemnation. Thanks to all in advance and Blessed Be.

I'm not sure where the idea came from but I am not, nor have I ever been a follower of the Wiccan religion.

I'm not that familiar with the Witchcraft religion but I can say that Christians are not supposed to judge others because none of us are without sin. Jesus may or may not approve of the religion either but that is a decision only he knows for real, not us assuming we know what he approves of. After all the Bible is a translation and a guide to the Christian religion. I say as a Christian, all Christians should embrace u and love u as Jesus would have and let u find ur own path. God be with u.

I'm wondering... do you practice witchcraft, or do you consider yourself Wiccan?

Witchcraft can be practiced by anyone, as it's not necessarily a religion. Wicca, on the other hand is, and you really need to make a choice. Saying your a Christian and a Wiccan is kind of like saying your a Catholic Muslim... doesn't make much sense.

In any event, Christians simply don't look kindly on witches. Never have, never will. The Bible itself says "suffer not a witch to live". It kind of makes sense that if a religion preaches against something that they wouldn't rejoice when one of their own goes in that direction.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but that's the way things are.

OTOH, I'm a Pagan myself. I grew up Catholic, and I attended a number of fundamentalist churches for a while, trying to deny myself. I'm transgendered and tried desperately to fit in. It simply didn't work

Strangely enough, in 1982, I had what turned out to be a past life experience. Not knowing anything about Paganism or Witchcraft, I put my pencil to paper and out came a poem called The Witch. It describes the final thoughts of a witch being burned.

Never knew that that piece of paper would be my answer. Still, while attending church, being part of the music ministry, I began to study. Through books and study with other witches and Pagans I found that Christianity bade me deny who I was, while Paganism celebrated it.

My family doesn't understand, but others do. My family still thinks I'm hell-bound but I know the truth. We don't discuss matters of faith (except during political discussions -- what a lovely time :-) )
Still, my family knows I love them and that's what counts more. The condescending looks are still there. I'm sure my mother spends hours praying for me, and you know what? The prayers do work... just not in the way she thinks.

In the end, the universe is much bigger than anyone of us will know in a single lifetime. Being bitter will never serve anyone. It's a good thing to understand the beliefs of your detractors, and an even better thing to understand your own faith as well as you can.

Good luck on your path, whatever it is.

Blessed Be,

--Dee

P.S. If you would like to read that poem, or others I've written, or if you would like to know of my own spiritual path, please write.

Props to you! I am now Christian but was once a Pagan... I think Christians don't understand what Paganism, Wicca, witchcraft and the like really are, you know? And here's my thought about witchcraft that maybe you agree with that could help in your explanation... to me the act of proforming a spell or ritual is more or less just like praying but in a more active way. Paganism and Catholicism have a whole lot of similarities actually... which could be why I'm so currently drawn to it. But be careful on that subject because it offends many.

Wait, so you're Christian still but practice witchcraft.. okay, I think you might have a harder time explaining that. But I'm sur eyou know what it means to be real Christian and that it isn't up to us to judge others... best of luck to you... If it helps, I'm a gay Christian so I know what you're going through and if more people at the churches I attend knew I'm sure I would be hated... But stick to what is true to you.

While it is true that no one has the authority to judge but God, the Bible does show the lifestyle that a true Christian should follow if he/she loves Christ. And the Bible is clear about withcraft. So I think people base their hurtful comments on that. I know that many people will condemn you while professing to be Christians. That is not what Christ wants of us. So you could just disregard that. But one thing; if you believe that you are a Christian then you should follow what the Bible says. Don't you think?

The disappointment of their own expectations is not your responsibility. If their relationship toward you is based only upon what they think you ought to be, then they were never interested in knowing you in the first place. They only know the person in their mind which they think you should be, not the actual person that you are. Just let them drift away, they can do nothing for you.

Personally, I don't allow the opinion of others to sway me in what I am, and what I do. I was not put on this earth to bow down to the wishes of people who, in my eyes, I hold nothing but pity and contempt for.

They who have their little minds, and little opinions, look deep into themselves, and can find nothing in there of worth. Their only way of feeling better about themselves, is to tear down and attack others. It doesn't matter what standard these servants of darkness bear before them, the twisted cross of a swastika, or the perverted image of Christ. They have become the servants of the Devil, partaking of his hate, and intolerance.

When you look into the face of pure evil, you see nothing but a mindless, hate filled fanatic staring back, someone who no longer even has a drop of God's love inside them.

I went to a Christian school for years, and listened to pastor after pastor preaching God's love, and forgiveness, meanwhile talking about wishing to bring back the "Good Old Days" of the inquisition and witch burning. I am glad God sent me to that school, just so I could look into and see the face of true evil.

All manipulative behaviors ought to be considered in advance. What are the consequences? Do you prefer these consequences? Perhaps you do not like your church friends and wish to alienate them from you? Do you hope to convert them?

You DO realize that there is a Bible verse in Exodus that insists that "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live," correct? If not, sorry that I had to bear such ill news so late. Don't expect much compassion regarding your conversion. If you get any, then they are following their real faith - perhaps you have decided to test them?

Anyhow, Wicca violates several other Christian tenents as well - particularly in regards to sexual relationships, let alone that most of it was fabricated by modern hucksters.
For my friends that practiced it, I see only that it has served the priesthood and sellers of paraphenalia - just as any other religion.

I could think of better risks to take.

Ah, yes, what actions would a dumb cult have you take? Abandon all family and friends and protective support networks so that you can be better manipulated and controlled by the priests. How brilliantly unoriginal!

If you wish to honestly study the old ways, take ye to academia and learn how to carefully hew deceit from fact. Keep your friends and family and old support networks and add to them. Much power is gained this way unless they are those that hurt or betray you. But if a person asks that you abandon a kind friend, then know such a person for the manipulative traitor that they are.

If you truely wish to follow the old ways and enter the holy orders, then choose a path of Bardi, Vate, or Filid. Study and learn, but know that we can never hope to be the same because we have all fallen in their faith because they eschewed the written word and have lost the old ways as a result of Romanization. But perhaps we can hope to create something better than what so many charlatans have to offer and restore in a few the impressive knowledge that once flowered amonst the Bretons. Other than that, the disease-ridden sex-fiends that would sully the honor of the old ways will find they curse themselves with their lies!
