it depends on how big its going to be and how elaborate you want it. some people start planning their weddings a year or more in advance. but if you want a more casual type of wedding, then maybe a few months before.

It depends on how elaborate a wedding you want. If you are thinking of a full formal affair for 500 people, you need at least a year to put everything together.

However, if you are going for something smaller and more practical, starting around 6 months out is a perfectly reasonable amount of time to plan. You need some of this time to prepare friends and family who live out of town or out of the state - giving them time to save the money to come to your wedding.

Consider when you are getting married, as well. If you are planning on being a June bride you might need a year to plan even for a modest wedding because everyone will have already booked all of the best places to get married, have the reception, buy the flowers, hire a photographer, etc. etc. at least a year in advance. If you are getting married during a slow wedding period, like winter, you don't need such a long lead time.

Here are some links to wedding planning sites. Good luck to you!

Wait until a date has been set, that's pretty much the signal that the wedding is a "sure thing." Even after the proposal you should both be sure that getting married is what you want to do, but once a date has been set, it means you are both serious.

A year and a half before the wedding. I say this because you should beging shopping arond a year before the wedding so you can see the styles and color available during that time of year.

at least 6-9 months if not a year. you want to give yourself plenty of time. You don't want to be stressing about it at the last min. The wedding will be here before you know it.

well, that depends on how large or small, where you want it and how much you can spend. if its tradional, as in a church and reception hall, you need to book them about a year in advance.it takes alot of time to order invites, flowers, food. the invites go out about 6 weeks before the wedding. if its not traditional, such as on a beach or say vegas, a few months should be enough.

As early as possible but ususally 12 to 18 months in advance should be plenty of time. This is a website that has a checklist of what things you need to have done and when you should get them done. Hope this helps you out.

I started planning 8 mos before and found reception halls not to be avail on the day I wanted. so depending on what you want (band, limo, hall) you might want to start 10-12 mos ahead of time
