His atheistic beliefs are his to believe. That's his religion. Anyone who's ever said anything against his beliefs and his way of life are just as free to do so as he is.

As expected, he's speaking out of pure ignorance. Atheists have caused more death and destruction than any religion has. It was Hitler's hatred for religion and his firm belief in Darwin's Origin of the Species that made him believe his race was superior to all others.

Elton is free to be atheist as well as gay, but if he takes his religion to the point of hating others and trying to ban beliefs other than his own than he's going a bit too far.

Actually a boycott of his music is useless, since he hasn't done anything worth listening to in about 20 years. I still love his music of the 70's and 80's but since Bernie Taupin quit writing the lyrics, his music has lost popularity. It just doesn't hold up without good lyrics. Too bad. He's a great pianist. We saw him in concert once and that was enough. I wouldn't see him again even if he were not such a bigot.

I don't agree. He has the right to feel how he wants. It does not have anything to do with his music. He is saying this because all he has known is Christan hate. He has not known their love and knowing that they are not judging him. Its the ones that want to show Christan's in a bad light that get up and say God Hates gays, so on and so on. That's not true. I think if someone told him not all Christan's are like that then he would be OK... Also I am Wiccan and We don't hate gays so.. I dont think he means all religion

I read what he is quoted as saying. It sounds to me like he would like religous people to stop hating/mistreating/attacking gays. Let's not take it out of context like the 60's Beetle statement on being bigger than God--people were showing them an adoration not found in the Churches of the day.

To him the solution is to ban religion. To me the solution is to focus on what Christ taught . . . to love others and not feel religion gives you the right to hate "righteously." Judgment is the Lord's territory and not ours.

Since I don't go to his concerts or buy his music . . . a boycott from me would not work.

Banning religion wouldn't do any good. Like heroin or cocaine, people are always attracted to the forbidden no matter how harmful it is, and the same can be said of religion which is just as addictive.

(Heroin and cocaine are actually preferable to religion: they never made anyone into a pedophile or a mass murderer.)

If we're going to kill off religion one day, it's going to be through education and enlightenment. That's why the religious are so adamant about putting cretinism - oops, creationism - in schools.

That's the spirit, lets all punish those that believe differently then we do. By the way, I agree with Mr. John, So when you finish with him I suppose you want to try to ruin my life too?

as far as being an agnostic....religion really isnt important....its what only makes people to be war-freaks. but i don't want to agree with elton john since it would also be unfair for his part is we say " let's ban all the gays in the world" or "all gays go to hell". his statement is quite offensive....he might as well keep his mouth shut and should'nt have made democracy stupid.

Sounds like you have doubt about your own faith or religion since you are responding in a defensive way to someone else's opinion.

I think he made that statement so he would be in the public eye again. He loves the attention, as it makes him money. I believe I read something this past week that he was hurting for money due to his expensive tastes.
