i found the rug and absolutely love it! so i figured i would just buy the table after...it is just me and my bf, so we don't need a huge table anyway. he says we need a table almost as big as the rug and i say like a 4' x 4' or something table is big enough...so i don't know!

I disagree with same size as table. No matter how you align those, the chairs will ALWAYS be fighting with the edge of rug.

Since it's only the two of you, I'd suggest a small table like a 3' or 4' dia round table. Two chairs can sit ON the rug just fine.

Shouldn't you be getting the size kitchen table that you need and then find a rug that fits, rather than the other way around? Anyway, generally, I believe the table should be somewhat smaller than the rug so that you can pull the chairs out comfortably and not be moving onto and off of the rug or wind up having your chair half on and half off of the rug.

You want a table smaller then the rug so when you pull the chairs out they will still be on the rug and not on the floor.

Smaller, if it is the same size (or close to) pulling out the chairs is easy. The problem is sitting in them & getting back under the table without actually lifting them up in an awkward position to clear the rug.
