In Texas, you can be a police officer, if you're 20 with 2 years of college. And an adult does have to buy your weapon for you. Or, the police department will have to issue you one. It's just the way the law is written.

I don't think that officer will be allowed to purchase a firearm. The department issue will have to do for now.

A good friend of mine is an Indianapolis police officer. He became a cop before he was 21, and I remember he couldn't even buy ammunition!!! Just to go practice with his issued weapon, he had to have someone else buy bullets for him.

I went through the academy with an 18 year old who was not allowed to buy his own handgun or ammunition. It ended up that his mother bought his gun for him.

No.
That is why most police departments require that you be at least 20 1/2 when you enter the academy, so that they can issue a weapon to you upon graduation.
