Happy Monday! I have been drinking, and I just finished a 375ml bottle of rum (while watching season 2 of "Entourage" - awesome show) and I was wondering if that meant I just finished a "5th" of rum? How much is a "5th" of anything??? Thanks!

Jon's Mom - can you ask Jon my question? He might know a little bit more about what I am asking! ;-)

Law and Order - another awesome show. I love Law, and I love Order. Put them together I blow a Orderly and Justicey load! (Okay, so maybe a little over the top - you have to listen to Dane Cook to understand!).

Ok, so incase anyone is worrying - I am on my 1/2 of a fifth (375mL) of a bottle of rum - and having a hell of a time! Thank you for all the excellent responses.

A 5th is the standard size bottle (750ml) you'll see most liqours in at the store. A "handle" of liqour is like a gallon size bottle usually with a "handle." Some people call them an "Elephant Foot" because of the size and round shape.

***Looking For a Good Rum?***
Try "Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum" I've only seen this stuff at Ralph's grocery market (Food 4 Less), But It Kicks ***!!!! And the best part is that it's a 92 Proof... 46% Alcohol compared to the normal 40% in most hard liqours.

A "Fifth" of liquor refers to a 1/5 of a gallon. It's since been rounded to a nice neat 750 ml (or 75 cl if you prefer).

So, you just killed a half of a fifth. Or, you could just take it the next step and say you drank a tenth.

Cheers!

A fifth is a bottle. Regular size, not the tiny bottles from airplanes.

A fifth of liquor is a fifth of a gallon (25.6 fluid ounces).

By the way, be careful with drinking that much! It can kill you!

Chris,

A fifth of any liquor is the BIG bottle. It usually has a handle.

I'm on my 3rd glass of wine, and I'm watching Law & Order SVU.
