Do I just do my state tax for the times I was in each state and then one for federal (3 separate forms in all)? Or is it different b/c the majority of the time I was in GA? Do I get extra W-2's that show the amount earned in each state (husband is military so obviously its the same employer)? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The first issues is the source of your income. Yours or your husband's could be treated differently because he is in the military. He could have a tax home in either of those states or some other state. If he is career military he should establish residence in a state that does not have state income tax, but that is another issue. As for your income, you are correct that you will do one federal return and two part year state returns. You should really see a tax professional that is familiar with doing tax returns for military personnel. If you live on a military base they should have some one on the base that can help.

First of all you should have informed your employer when you moved to NC.
You are going to file one federal return for the year and then two state returns. GA for the 10 months you lived there and NC for the two months you lived there. The state returns will be filed as a part-year resident returns.
