Well I sure hate to open up this can of worms, and possibly hurt someones feelings. But the Vet tech, is so wrong. Registered Nurse here, and yes, most defend, without a doubt. Humans do get round worms, hook worms, and tape worms from animals. Have never seen or heard of humans getting heart worms. But the technician that answers these questions everyday, mmm, well dear your answering them wrong.

Intestinal worms live in a dogs intestinal tract. They shed their eggs through their fecies, which is supposed to be deposited into the ground, for another animal to pick up, so it can produce more worms. A human can get infected if they come in contact with the fecies or any thing that is touched. Or sometimes from a dogs mouth, if a dog has been licking back their. It is much harder for adults to get worms, but children are at higher risk. They play in the dirt more, they have a weaker immune system, and they have worse hygene. And the commone worms, like hookworms and roundworms don't contract to humans in an intestinal parasite form, then can cause damage, such as blindness. And not all parasites are tranmittable to humans. It is not very common for this to happen, but it DOES happen, and a people have been scarred, or have gone blind from it. This is called a zoonotic disease if you want to know more.

If you don't practice proper hygeine you can ingest worm eggs. The eggs can get under your fingernails. If you don't wash your hands after working outside, cleaning poop, cleaning litterboxes and you eat, handle foods, have hands near your mouth, etc you can pass the worm eggs on.
Worms are more common in children then they are in adults.
You can't get heartworm (only passed on by infected mosquitos not pets) or tapeworms (only passed on by fleas or eating rodents) from your pets. Ringworm can be passed from pets to people however ringworm is NOT a worm it is a fungus.

Hmmmm, she didn't say they couldn't get worms, but that they can, simply in another form which is true.
People can get ringworm = most commonly from dogs and squirrels. Squirrels are the most common carrier of ringworm.
Worms can be transmitted in any form thru fecal matter. If you clean carefully and completely the area your dog uses, you shouldn't have a problem.

Ringworm is the only worms I know that are transferable between humans and dogs. If a dog has ringworm the owner should wear gloves when applying medication to the affected area.

Yes it is POSSIBLE. Heartworm, tapeworm, roundworm, simply by letting the dog lick your hand and not washing it afterward, and then eating a burger and dripping it all over your hand and you lick it up and swallow and... there you have it.

It isn't. Humans and animals cannot transfer worms. Only blood borne disease is transferable ei. mosquito bites, etc....
