My daughter is 16 months old. She's never been in a playpen, but when she started cruising and standing on her own, my older kids and I would sit on the floor with her. One of us would help her get her balance, then another would call her with their arms outstretched. We started out sitting very close together and as her confidence grew, we moved further and further apart. Before long, she was charging across the room at us! Now she runs all over the place. With my older two, I just let them hold my hands and walked along behind them, or sat a little way from them while they stood holding on to the furniture and called to them. Once he builds up some confidence and learns how to fall without hurting himself, he'll catch on. Hope this helps, good luck!

Make him a small area to play in , put up a gate or use a coffee table (without rough edges) as a guide for him! He must feel safe in the play pen! Some kids just will not walk it will come soon enough don't worry! My son is 15 mnths and he runs all over it would be nice if he would stay in the pen!!!

The play pen is soft but the floor is hard, so what kind of shoes do you have on your son when he is out of the play pen? Plus the play pen has rails and he probably feels secure with the rails surrounding him, is he holding on as he walks in the play pen?

Try stnading right behind him when he walking or placing him in a small room (you in ther of coarse) many liitle ones do things like this his playpen is small & he feels very secure. Just make sure he feels secure outside the playpen whe he tries walking. Good Luck

My playpen has a removable floor (it's a pack and play). If your little guy likes to walk only on the floor of his playpen...maybe take the floor out of it and lay it on the living room floor. See if he will transiiton that way.

it might be because he has more balance that way than on the floor.what you can do is but him on the floor and have a toy or something in front of you something he might like and then you tell him come and get it and move slowly so while he is moving forward you do the opposite an see if that will work.

Place his favorite toy or any object you think may interest him on one side of the couch and have stand one the other end of the couch and try to have him walk to it. Did you try holding his hands and helping him walk around?

He has the security for the playpens walls. Give him time he will become stable and take off on his own. Then you will wish he was just crawling again.

maybe he feels secure in there, try having him cruise next to the couch while you're on the other side of him. Good luck!
