I mean, what could be a meaning of merciful fate, which means that someone had mercy but what about fate?

Merciful Fate was a rock band in the early 1980's

It is when fate has mercy. Like good luck. You could have been in a bad situation, but fate got you out of it- you happened to have good luck and end up in a good situation.
