there's many answers to this question. you can go to the sumerians where they claim "god is far away and sometimes forgets." or you can listen to country music (garth brooks i believe), and hear "some of god's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."
now here's the real answer:
if there is a god, then we can assume he wants to help to some extent. but i think that if there is a god, what will come into play is will. we all make choices everyday, no matter how small and isnignificant, and these little choices affect an outcome.
say you get into a car accident and get paralyzed. bad, i kno. well, go back and consider the choices you made that day. maybe you left work early or late by 5 minutes. if you would have left at any other time, than the accident would most likely be avoided. or maybe even further back. you were at work, and while u were typing a report, you took a few minutes to rearrange you calendar. that held you up a few minutes, but just enough. or even further. the night before, you thought "i should reaarange my calendar. but it's late, and i'm tired" so god, if he/she/it DOES exist, gave us the ability of free will which he cannot and does not adjust.
when it comes to being in a bad situation as you describe, you made a choice somewhere. maybe you were offered a job, and you didnt take it and took another one. maybe you wanted one job, but said somethin just a little off in the interview, puting you in a job you would later despise.
basically, we have will. god wont fix somethin that he/she/it didn't break.
not only that, but have you ever hatched an egg? what are you NOT supposed to do? help the chicken or alligator or dinosaur or whatever get out of the egg. you doing that can makethem weaker, and kill them diwnt he road. ig god exists, then he/she/it cant help us or it will make us weaker or just affect us downt he road.

Sweetheart, examine yourself and your life, look how far you've come, who brought you through all those times in your life when you thought there was no hope? Who sent that person who offered you a comforting word for your soul when you needed it? Whose hand was stretched out for you during that time when you were in a ditch and nobody cared whether you got out or not? Who caused that mess in your life not so long ago seem like a it never happened by straightening that mess out for you? At least you get a chance to wake up and complain of this stinking place - what about the person without a bed? Have you ever given God thanks for anything in your life? Or do you just want Him to jump up for you with an answer everytime you throw a temper-tantrum? Honey, you need a wake-up call and trust me, God will give you one on one of this fine days. You better get up and start practicing to give thanks about what you have. God loves you unconditionally and He cares for you sooo much that He has preserved you until this day and tomorrow so that maybe and just maybe tomorrow you will see his hand on your life. Be blessed

Maybe God isn't answering your prayer for help because you aren't asking him to save you.
That is the one prayer that God will answer. Get saved first because God don't want anyone to die without Jesus and end up in a eternal tormenting burning Hell.
He wants you in heaven with him. So I suggest you ask Jesus to forgive you of all your sins and tell him that you believe he died on the cross and came back to life for your sins and then ask Jesus to come into your life and be your Lord and Savior.
After believing this and saying it to God then if you still don't want to be here, you can now ask God to take you to be with him and I'm believe that he'll grant your request unless he has something else more wonder planned for your life.

Believing in God is a matter of faith. If he just showed up, said "Howdy!", and answered your question outright, then faith would not be involved. Sometimes not seeing an obvious answer IS an answer. Sometimes you may not be listening with the Holy Spirit. Lots of times just talking to someone, whether it be God or a good friend, is enough to make you feel better. He is always listening, so don't give up!

I do not really have a good answer for you. But I want to say this. We are all sinners. Even believers. God doesn't block out certain prayers and decided which ones He wants to hear. He hears them all, He hears all of our imperfections and sins and still loves us as much as He did before. God knows everything we've done, we're doing, and what we're going to do, and still LOVES US. Okay now to the answer: Maybe He just isn't giving you the answer you want to hear. I know I know that sounds so typical. But really a lot of times I know I ask God for answers expecting one thing and never get it, but then I realize God has answered my calls but in a way i never saw because I was caught up in my selfish desire to get the other thing I was wanting. I have been a Christian for many years but it is still so difficult to give up what I want to follow for what I feel is God's plan for me. When I feel like God isn't answering, i reexamine myself and try to determine if I really am trusting that God will be faithful to answer my calling. God wants to give us the desires of our hearts but He can only do that if we are living through him and for him and making all of our intentions point to Him.
It is still something I am figuring out myself but I trust that God will lead me where He thinks I should be and to do whatever I can handle with Him.

That's tough, where are you that's so bad ? I know from experience that if you try to seek Him, He will help you to find Him, even if you are backwards to Him, don't study the Bible, don't go to Church, etc. If you are trying to be good and looking, He will help you. I know He doesn't even listen to some people's prayers. Forsome, He 'turns a deaf ear' to them- as the Bible says. Try living for Him, learning about Him, before you go asking for things. When you ask for things to happen FOR others, after you have a relationship with Him, He OFTEN answers prayers expediently.
I think for yourself personally to have prayers answered that favor you, it must fit into His plan for you. Many times, they do not.
Make sense ?
If not, email me.

I use to turn to my parents for money and as I got older they said no more and more. So I could stand on my feet. However my parents have always been there in a time of need also when a true crisis happens they were there more so. Compare the two fathers.

I'll teach you how to pray.
When you are near to exam, don't pray for pass, pray for understand the questions and remember the answers what you studied. When you lost your loved one, don't ask Him why, but pray for strength to keep on going without yr loved ones and bare the pain. when you have faced a problem, don't ask for pass over, but pray for determinations and wisdom to solve it. When you can't get what you want, don't ask for gain, but pray for strength to bare your pain.
I hope you understand what I mean. It is a prayer of having strong heart to facing and solving into it other than escaping and free from it. please understand that if you cannot change the situation, change your mindset.

"Keep on asking, and it will be given you; keep on seeking, and you will find; keep on knocking, and it will be opened to you. For everyone asking receives, and everyone seeking finds, and to everyone knocking it will be opened."—LUKE 11:9, 10. SHOWING full confidence in the words of Jesus Christ quoted above, many Christians turn to God in prayer about their problems and anxieties, certain that he loves and cares for them. Some, however, experience frustration as they wait for their prayers to be answered. Do you feel that your prayers are ineffective? Does God listen when you pray? Even if our prayers seem to go unanswered, this does not mean that God did not hear them. The Bible assures us: "The eyes of Jehovah are upon the righteous ones, and his ears are toward their supplication." (1 Peter 3:12)
However, prayers must meet certain requirements if they are to be acceptable to God. First, they must be directed exclusively to God—not to Jesus, to a "saint," or to an idol. (Exodus 20:4, 5) Prayers must also be offered in the name of God's Son, Jesus Christ. (John 14:6). by praying to Jehovah in the name of Jesus, we identify ourselves as Christ's disciples and we acknowledge that it is only because of his ransom that we are able to approach God.—Hebrews 4:14-16.
Prayers must be offered in faith. The apostle Paul pointed out: "Without faith it is impossible to please [God] well, for he that approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him." (Hebrews 11:6)
