If she is unable to walk upright on the floor of the cage, seems to toss her head around. Quick motions but disoriented. These are typical signs of a hen being egg bound. I recently loss a lovebird hen to the same problem. It is the result of a calcium deficiency. Most birds neglect the little candy looking pieces in their seeds and these are the calcium supplements. There is a chance you can save her. Listen carefully. Gently scoop her up in a wash cloth or some other very soft supporting material and set her in a very soft padded shoe box or tupperware bowl, something to transport her in. I STRESS BEING CAREFUL, YOU CAN EASILY BREAK THE BOUND EGG RESULTING IN PAINFUL DEATH. Cover it with a light towel to block out the light reducing her stress. The vet if told you suspect egg binding can treat accordingly, usually an extremely high dosage of calcium administered. You have a very limited amount of time as the symptoms she is showing are the ones that come towards the end. [hope this helps you, and good luck]

If you are sure it was a fall, she may have a slight sprain. keep a close eye on her, and she should be on the mend in a couple of days. She knows best what to do for herself, but if you see her trying to climb or anything, and having a hard time of it, give her a lift using a perch, and move her slowly. If she cannot or won't get on a perch for you, let her be. I can't imagine why she would be 'falling' one way or another, because this type of injury normally only causes a limp. Make sure she is eating and drinking, and keep her from any drafts since she is not moving around very much. Consider calling a vet after a few days. So far I have been blessed, but Cockatiels are like 2yr. olds and they do manage to get themselves into trouble from time to time. My oldest is 22 yrs old, and so far no vet bills. Best wishes.

This sounds like your tiel may have a neurological problem. I have seen many birds that have flown into something and suffered head trauma causeing the bird not able to stand up or walk and fall to the affected side.

If your bird is not abl to use either of its legs to stand and you notice its legs spread out on each side of it, or notice its feet (claws = talons) are balled up, then this is a classic case of rickets (severe calcium deficency). Rickets can be reversed if it is not in the advanced stages by a high calcium diet. I would purchase a calcium supplement powder and sprinkle this on the tiels seed each day.

Keep the bird warm and confortable. Take the tiel to a vet who specializes in birds to get a professional diagnoses of the tiel's problem.

Good Luck :-)

Sorry, but this is a serious problem. Unfortunately a vet bill will cost much more than the bird itself cost. Check her leg to see if it is broken. If it seems otherwise healthy it might be something that a vet can fix.
