Take a class!! A lot of community education programs offer classes, or check your local pet store - I know Petco offers puppy kindergarten. If you or anyone in your household is under 18, consider 4H. They have a great dog program, and training classes in obedience, showmanship and agility. (you can take just obedience, or obedience plus one or both of the other two). It's a great experience and they're very helpful.

We presently have four dachshunds all starting from thirteen years historical to one million 12 months historical. I might no longer advocate rubbing her nostril in it in view that then she thinks she is meant to be gambling with it. Just what I have learn in dog books ago. With a brand new dog we regularly take them out each half-hour pronouncing "Outside" so that they get used to listening to that... after which in the event that they do cross within placed them external instantly so that they get used to being placed external while they've long past. Do no longer blank up the mess with the dog there - they are going to believe you're gambling with it. Dachshunds are particularly cussed puppies and desire to be unbiased so it could take a even as however when you preserve up with the hints they are going to holiday it very quickly!

Start out simple. Enroll your pup in a Puppy Kindergarten class. This will deal with the basics like sit, stay, down and help with socialization with other dogs and with people the lessons learned are invaluable. Afterward enroll in a basic obedience class. In between classes you will work with your pup on your own but the classes will give you the foundation and teach your pup lessons you can't teach him/her on your own.

They are a real stubborn breed. You need to be consistant and firm. I have one who is now 12 yrs. old. The book called dog problems by the author Carole Lea Benjamin was a great helper to me.
