it could be just a loose or split hose, have a mechanic check it out :)

inspect closely the water valve for the heater and the heater hoses themselves if any of these has failed it can spray hot water towards the engine making you think the cylinder heads will have to come off when the actual problem is a inexpensive valve or hose also note the in and out spigots for heater [what the hoses are clamped to] are they loose? corrosion may have gotten to these and coolant may be splashing back onto engine

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it might have froze up on it,and busted ,either that or it blew a freeze plug out of it,that's about the only thing that will dump that much coolant out of it that fast, did you have the proper amount of coolant in it,because it shouldn't have done this at all,you may have to have it looked at by a good mechanic to see what happened to it,because this isn't normal for any vehicle to do,i wish you the best luck, but i have a feeling something busted on it,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

ford 4.6/5.4 has a steel line from water pump to back of engine, under intake, goes to heater. pull intake to replace. P.S. don't let a dodge man work on it!
