it may not be what you are using for a syling product... it maybe your flat iron.. i too have EXTREMELY THICK CURLY HAIR... but if u didnt know it.. you'd never think it... i have it thinned out when i get it cut... and i had the same problem with my "at home" flat ironing not looking as good as the salons.... but i fixed it.... my solution.. i broke down and paid 180 dollars for my flat iron.. i got the paul mitchell smoothing flat iron (see link below) i also use a mix of things to fix my hair.. but the best i have found is the so sexy line from victorias secret.. i use the shampoo and the conditioner then i finish with the STRAIGHT GEL and the smoothing serum.. you can usually get them for 3/$21... so they arent that bad expensive....oh and during the summer when hummidity probably makes ur hair kink back up after u spend hours fixing it... use straight sexy hair hair spray... it locks out the moisture...
good luck with the hair!!

Maybe your flat iron isnt getting as hot as it needs to or giving even temperature. If you have a cheap flat iron it makes your hair dry and not at all straight. CHI, HAI, and Solia make the best flat irons. The get really hot and if you do have thick curly hair you do need a higher setting. The highest, but in between. Paul Mitchell super skinny serum is really REALLY good and it conditions, shines and protects the hair from damage. Section your hair out with a clip and do thin sections at a time. The best way to do it is to use a comb to hold your hair instead of your fingers and hands then flat iron it.

Always use a product like a heat activated one (an oil based product works best I like IC Hair Polisher) before you flat iron. This helps protect the hair from damage. I also Have thick curly hair and it is very smooth after I flat iron. I would use the highest setting. A professional ceramic flat iron is the best.

At the lowest temperature that will give you the results you are seeking...my daughter has thick, but fine hair and she can use a 20, I on the other hand have thick, curly hair and I use the hottest setting of 25. Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy and fast to do, my hair is below my shoulders and I can get it done in 15 minutes tops. Hint, use a leave in conditioner. and do small amounts at a time. clip it up in sections and just focus on one section at a time. Good Luck

I use a flat iron and I usually have it on 20 but I think the one thing that works for me is Curling wax . When you use the curling wax it helps to give your hair a more straight and shiny look. Don't use to much though, and remember to use little amount of hair at a time and go slowly on the hair starting from the root to the end.
Hope this information helps

What works the best is to use a serum in your hair when it is wet (I recommend Paul Mitchell Supper Skinny Serum) than when you blow dry use a brush to pull the hair straight. Once it is dry the key is to use the serum again in the hair and straighten small sections at a time. You also need a good straightner (I love my CHI iron you can find one at some salons) And with your hair type you need to use a higher setting but remember the serum will protect your hair. Good Luck

Never put your iron on the highest setting. You will damage your hair. Try putting on a product called shine. After I flat iron someones hair, I apply shine and it makes it all smooth and "shiny". There are cheaper versions at Walmart in the hair section.

I have thick hair..not curly tho. wavy. i use mine on the highest setting which is 25 on mine..and as far as the shine and smooth surface..depends on how straighten your hair..and for how long you do it too. sometimes i just use lotion on the surface of my hair..it works like gel but doesnt make it thick!
