You know, the kind of rebate where you have to cut out the UPC symbol and serial number, then wait 8-12 weeks for a $50 rebate? I had a card returned today that said I did not get my rebate because I sent in the wrong thing. I hate rebates!

Rebates are a scam. I always figure the actual selling price is your cost, because you may or may not receive the rebate.

Yes! Rebates suck! The reason they do it that way is that they set the money aside for the rebate in an interest bearing account. They make back the money that they give out in the promotion and deny rebates to a certain percentage of customers for "errors" which helps the manufacturer break even. It's an elaborate spoof and there really should be some legislation about rebate practices because they are highly unethical.

Yeah, yet they're relying on that. As an impulse you pay the finished value thinking you're paying the minus the rebate value after which you forget to deliver it in or you screw up. it is merely yet another industry ploy.
