It's been 5 days and my gums are still sore and swollen. They are not infected...I am taking antibiotics but wondered how long this swelling will stay! I can't tell from looking in the mirror that I'm swollen but I can feel it and it's tender to the touch. Help is this normal?

All depends on the difficulity of the extractions. You cant predict one persons healing time or process. Everybody is different. The healthier one self is, the faster the healing.
On average, without problems.. average person can be from 1-2 weeks. By 2 weeks definately the swelling should be gone. Until then, i wouldnt freak out just yet. The soreness, will depend on you! You cant strain your mouth, by opening wide or chewing things that are hard and such. This will strain your mouth and jaw, which has just gone through 'tramua'. It takes time, to heal.
Be patient... your well into your recovery... things will be better soon.

It's normal if they are tender for a while (after a while mine didn't hurt much unless I did something that directly affected that area), but if it's still just as swollen this time next week I'd call the dentist.

warm salt water rinses will help heal the area and help the tenerness. some heal faster than others if there is no pain you should be ok. you could call the dr and see about a post op check (should be no charge for this) it it was a difficult extraction you may stay swelled up a bit longer. good luck

Did you drink through a straw? Do you smoke? Have anything too hot, like soup? Have you noticed a foul smelling odor in your mouth?

You may have dislodged the blood clot which forms in the holes where the wisdom teeth once were - and in essense the bone is exposed to air. If so, this is called "dry socket." Call your Oral Surgeon first thing...

That seems too long. I had my wisdom teeth pulled, seemed to me 24 hours and I was doing well, and 48 hours I was OK.
I think you should give your dentist a call in the morning and tell them what your symptoms are.
