Tell them the truth. Also, give them their options and let it be THEIR choice. Phone calls, letters, visits and so on. Do not pressure them. Let them know you will support whatever they decide.

It depends on if you want them to have a relationship with him or not. I don't know about your state, but here in Texas you can have a parents rights taken away after 6 mos of no contact. If that is not what you want, then you have to decide if you want to take them to the jail to visit him. This is a personal decision only you can make. Give every aspect of each one a lot of thought before you make your final choice. Good luck!

My personal oppinion they should know everything cause for one thing that could teach them that if they do what he did thats were they would go and it will teach them that is not what they want out of life. They are at the age now to understand right from wrong. They need to learn from ya'lls mistakes as well as theres .This will make a difference in there lives to keep them from doing it.

Wow, sounds familiar! My ex was sent to prison for Commercial quantity Cocaine importation and sentenced to 21yrs non parole 3days after i gave birth to our son. i was only 17 then and it hurt like hell. not to mention worrying about what to tell my child of his father when he got older. he is 6yrs old now, and i have told him what happened. we live in a different country to where he is imprisioned, so we have not made contact since, but my son knows what happenned and is very accepting, although i suspect he doesnt fully understand. Tell your children what happened (depending on the crime) if it was a sexual offence or child murder i would spare your children the stigma and heartache. email me if you would like to talk privately.
take care

tell them the truth, don't mask anything it shows them that their are consequences to bad actions. Their father didn't think about the consequences and now he is in jail. Tell them that they can visit him, but only if they want to, and they shouldn't feel guilty if they don't want to. I wouldn't want to go to jail even to visit.

Tell them the truth, there is no harm in telling the truth...it's better then telling them something else and them finding out the truth and then be mad at you for you not telling them what was going on and so forth...good luck

I would be honest with them. They need to know the truth why their father doesn't call them or see them etc. The don't need to know what he did exactly to end up there but they should know the truth.
