There is no such thing as "fair" in the military. Thanks for asking.

Hmmm... good question. Let me give you some insight (this will be Army experience only). There is a lot of predisposed thinking that goes on. As mentioned earlier promotions are based on leadership - and often women are not given the same number opportunities, so hence promoted less.

I can have a Master's degree, max my Physical Fitness test, and still be second because my gender limits me in some areas. Some of it is outright ignorance, some of it is policy, and a sprinkle of it is a bad rap from other women.

For women in the military, knowledge is power. I use those skills constantly to correct the unfairness that I encounter - superiors and subordinates alike. I have to fight harder, prove more, and have a constant sense of bearing that my male counterparts can be more relaxed about.

i remember when i was in the army, men just assumed because i was a woman that i wouldn't get dirty or that i couldn't do anything strenuous. i had to prove to the men that i worked with that i could pull my own weight. not all women in the military work in offices and have pretty nails and hair. most work just as hard as the men do. also some of the men were raised to take care of women and its just their nature to do the hard stuff for us. its not that they're treating us unfairly, its how they were raised. my husband has female soldiers and some of them are lazy and can't turn a wrench and others can troubleshoot the equipment and fix it with no effort.

First and fore most, there are some women, like men, who can't hold their own in many situations. Not just the military. But since we are on the military subject, and being a female in the military I would like to say that.......I am not treated any differently then my male counterparts because.......I am able to do what they can do, I max my physical fitness not only on the female scale but on the male scale (and I am not big and she-manish, I am 5-1 and weigh 110lbs). I have been in combat, I have been blown up at, I have been shot at, and I have been mortared, and just like my male companions, have been able to suck it up and do my job as a medic out there.

They aren't allowed to serve in combat jobs, so they will be restricted from promotions since military promotions are so dependent on (and rightfully so) being able to lead in war.

Ironically women are allowed to be killed when they serve in non-combat positions near the killing fields.

I've got to say that I know just as many whiny babyish cowardly men as I do women with long nails.

Other than that, the military has been leading the way in equal opportunity and equal treatment for over 30 years. Why? Government can force it and did so.

I agree with moby. Not only do women have to do less on the Physical Readiness Test, but if a certain job requires you to be able to lift a certain amount, the amount is lowered for the women. I guess if you have women working with you they don't make the boxes as heavy.

If she is not in the click she may as well consider herself SOL. Because every one in her unit is going to be against her. But if she is a suck up she got it made. I am not saying that this treatment is everywhere. But if the unit f*^ked up like this then she will be an individual.

First, on field problems, God forbid if the women put up the camo nets, set up the tents or CP, or any job that might break their stupid long nails. I could go on for days, but I will stop here.
