I have looked everywhere, but I still cannot find anything. It flares up every month or so in the same spot. It is at the very tip of my tongue and has a very fine white tip on it. (Almost microscopic!)

I know it can't be herpes; I'm a virgin in every way whatsoever. I have no other abnormalities with my tongue. The bump is irritating, but not painful. I would love to know what this might be and what I can do to treat it.

It's not geographic tongue- it's just one little spot, not more than a millimeter in diameter; the rest of my tongue is relatively the same color.

I've always called them lie bumps. Don;t know them to be life threatening or anything to even worry about.

Its probably a swollen tastebud, I get them all the time. Do you use or have you eaten something with alot of salt? Salt usually triggers the swollen tastebuds...and they should go away in a few days. Drink water!

There are different types of herpes. If you have ever had a canker sore or cold sore than you have herpes. You could have even gotten it from a kiss from your mom. I would go to a dermatologist. They can take a biopsy to make sure its not cancer.

try googling "geographic tongue" or "migratory glossitis"

doesn't sound like you have it, but it could be similar

ps - herpes does not break out on your tongue, and you don't have to be sexually active to contract it.

My brother gets those too, it bothers him but he doesn't have much choice. I don't think its anything to worry about, but whatever you do, don't poke it with a needle. Don't ask why unless you want to hear a very long story! LOL!

please see an ears, nose, and throat doctor. s/he can thoroughly examine your tongue to determine whether your bump is serious or just a nusiance. either way, if it's bothering you, seek medical attention.
