All soda, diet and regular, is bad for you, and here is why:
Many of the artificial sweeteners that are used in diet soda, such as saccharine and aspartame, are suspected carcinogens, which means that in large doses they could cause cancer. While there is still no proof that shows that these substances cause cancer in humans, it is bad enough that certain countries have banned them. For instance, saccharine, the substance used for Sweet n' Low in the United States, is banned in Canada. Funnily enough, the substitute that they use in Canada is banned in the U.S.!
Regular soda is bad because it is high in what we call "empty" calories. In other words, it is full of sugar with absolutely no nutritional value. The other problem with soda is that it replaces more healthy beverages. In other words, when you choose to quench your thirst with a soda, you are missing an opportunity to consume something good for you that has essential nutrients, like milk or juice.
Just say no to soda!

artificial sweeteners are bad because they contain unknown chemicals that are responsible for causing some types of cancers and heaven only knows what other health conditions.
Thus is also why *diet* soda pop is a bad thing too. It doesn't matter if it's Splenda, NutraSweet, Equal or any of the other lab created sweeteners- stay away from any food or beverages that contain them- go for th sugar- sure it has more calories but not the health risks associated with the other *stuff*

Well here in the United States... the majority of sweetener used is High Fructose Corn Syrup. The problem with this versus what the rest of the world uses (cane sugar) is corn syrup doesn't register the sugar content as much with our body, meaning we need more sugar in our blood do register it as being X amount while you would need less cane sugar for the similar amount. This is leading to a huge jump in diabetes cases. Corn syrup to Cane Sugar is kinda the like how Trans-Fat is to Normal Saturated Fat. Both aren't good for you in large quantities BUT one is much worse than the other.
As for artificial sweeteners the answer is simple. Many of them are artificial, which is the equivalent of eating sweet rocks. While splenda advertises being a made from sugar sweetener, it does have a high Chlorine-ic content which isn't exactly a great chemical to be eating.
If you are able to find drinks with Pure Cane Sugar, those would be the 'best' soft drinks to consume.

I am going to say that the answer lies in your question. They are "artificial", meaning not real or natural. Soda, in all forms is bad for you. Regular Sodas have High Fructose Corn Syrup and Diet Sodas have artificial sweeteners. Sodas that have natural sugars are few and far between.

artificail sweeteners has ingredients in it that puts a beatin to your liver and kidneys! I think its the sacryn, I don't remember exactly what it is that is so terrible. Diet soda is much wrose than regular soda. I don't personally see what is so wrong with soda. When I was pregnant and dehydrated they gave me sprite instead of water because the electrolytes and sugar gave me a much needed boost. And whenever someone has the flu or a sore throat most people tell them to drink ginger ale, right? So if you ask me soda is good....less sugar than pure juice! But those artificial sweeteners are nasty, and they taste just as nasty!!! Good luck!!!!!

The major "problem" seen with diet sodas is the use of artificial sweetners. The alleged problem is that these sweetners can cause brain cancer. However, this is a ridiculous assumption because the results were found by feeding lab rats absolutely gigantic amounts of the artificial sweetners approximately equal to their body weight. If you ate your body weight in any food you would be in serious trouble.

Articifial sweeteners have been shown to cause brain tumors if taken in large quantities. I don't know about you, but i don't want to have to guess how much of it is going to give me one, so I just stay away. Many reputable diets and diabetic programs don't allow the artificial sweetners because they say that once in the body the chemical sweetners do the same thing as sugar.

Artificial sweeteners are bad because to substitute for the loss of sugar, other things are added.
I personally think that diet soda is worse because they have to add extra stuff to make it taste good.

You might want to do more research on this topic yourself. I have been told that diet soda is worse than regular soda. I have forgotten the reason. I think it has something to do with the aritificial sweetners they use in it.
