Im a new nanny to an awesome 13 month old boy and I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas on some local classes in Glendale, AZ that I could take him to during the day. He already attends a sign language class and I looked into Busy Bodies and
Pump It Up, but I cant think of much more. So if you have any ideas that would be great, thanks:) Oh also the sign language class that he goes to is really kinda far from us (3rd st and Bethany Home) so if anyone from this area or knows this area (85308 or around the area between 19th ave and Deer Valley to 67th ave and Thunderbird) could let me know of one thats maybe a little closer that would be great!

Personally, I think it sounds like the child has enough organized play. There is something to be said for children his age playing in a less structured environment. This is a key age for him to explore and discover, and develop his own personality. Structure can come later, when he's more confident and able to handle it. Too many classes just limit his experiences, because they are usually what the parents or adults think they want him to be interested in. It's very confining and unfair.

That being said, if you're just looking to get out of the house and keep busy, I would say to try some more free-play type activitied and less classes. Maybe a local library that has a child's room, where he can explore and color and stuff. Trips to the zoo, museums, observatories- all these things will be just as educational, but will allow him to decide what he likes for himself. He'll be pver-scheduled and over-classed as soon as he hits Kindergarten, or even preschool. Give him time to be a kid.

My humble opinion is that we force kids into classes and such way too early. Let them be kids and play- they can still learn as much being kids as they would being little miny adults...

And, I agree, don't give so much info. There are freakos out here on the Internet...

Good Luck!

Check the local recreation district. They normally have at least 3 or 4 different options for children younger than 5. You might also look into a moms group, even though you are a Nanny, and the little one can play with other kids in the same age.

I think 2 structured play classes a week is reasonable. If you had something everyday that would be excessive. Do they have a Music Together program in your area? Those are great. It's very free flowing structure and they focus on singing, playing kid friendly instruments and lots of body movement. My kids (2 years and 11 months) love this class. My son is very active and this gets him moving and he always has a good nap afterwards.

Good nannies don't give out the information of where they are to strangers.
