According to Catholicism, babies that die before baptism go to Limbo, which was kind of made up to comfort grieving parents since Christians are supposed to believe that all non-baptized just go to Hell. However, there's that whole thing with election, and it's confusing.
Anyway, the anti-abortion thing also stems from the Middle Ages when it was thought that human reproduction worked like this: humans started off as tiny humans that were released by sperm so they could grow to be born. It was during this period that masturbation was seen as a worse sin than incest!
However, in the Hebrew Bible (OT), there is nothing against abortion. Next to "a life for a life," there is a statement that if someone causes a woman to miscarry, that person has to pay her husband some money. If the loss of the unborn was seen as murder, it would have required the person at fault to be put to death. Furthermore, there is also a section where priests would give women bitter drinks that would cause them to miscarry if their husbands thought they were cheating on them!

Heh, just asked that myself:

The answers there are about as unsatisfactory as the ones you get here.
The Christians have the religion that says that the innocent have a free pass to Heaven until they are able to question the world around them. By those rules, the best thing you could do would be to have an abortion.
Conveniently, the tenets of the religion are thrown out the window so that the followers can avoid condoning murder.
Why's that? Probably because even the most psychotic Christian knows that murder is wrong. Yet, when he is shown evidence from his religion that murder would be the best policy, he will reject his religion and stick with the belief that murder is wrong.

Hey that's a great idea! Maybe we should murder all children below the age of six, who are not yet morally responsible, before they have a chance to really get into sin! That would make at least as much sense as what you have suggested. The problem (actually just one of several enormous theological problems with what you wrote) is that the end cannot justify the means. Murder is intrinsically evil, regardless of any supposed "good" that might result from such an evil act.

First of all, no one really knows what happens to those who are conceived but never get a chance to accept Christ and get baptized.
The souls of those aborted children may well be doomed to an existence separated from God, as there's no absolute assurance of heaven for anyone, even babies, because of original sin, which affects all of mankind from conception.
Secondly, no one has the right to end a life except God.

No... I mean I see your point but the idea is that the stillborn go to heaven by default; they can't choose God but then again they only have original sin, so they're better off than most of the rest of us.
The reason that your argument doesn't fit is that it's better to let a person live (whether you believe in heaven/purgatory/hell or not), and if that babie can grow and mature into a person that can choose God and serve him, that's better.

Don't you mean Murdered babies....... through abortions.
These babies no matter what the size.... were a thought of God, God gave them life of spirit before they where sent on their way to be born.
Were we giving free will to murder, to send God's thoughts back to him.
Who are we to over ride God's thoughts, we are messing up his plan, someone Else's prayers- perhaps why they aren't answered.
Who ever had a role in the murder of an abortion child, would eventually feel that pain on judgment day.
Sorry my feelings got a bit out of whack, If some of us feel strongly about this, what do you think God feels, his feelings are greater than ours.
p.s. God doesn't lose babies, they all go to heaven and grow, these children are taught the oracles of God.
PEACE!

They do. But it takes away their opportunity to learn, have a free choice. How would you like it if God came up to you and said here is where you belong because you would not make the right choices? But if he said to you you never made the right choices to like in the highest kingdom but you are assigned to the next highest because you were a good person etc you would be very happy living where you know you deserve.

Hi Red Eye Agnostic. We are not born saved, Salvation comes some time after we are born. But God's Judgment is terrible on those who are not saved, those who reject Gods word or follow false gospels.
The cites of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God for their wickedness and there were women in those cites, so you would have to assume there were babies and children. Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy the cites, in Genesis 18:32 we read:
"Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” 33 So the LORD went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place."
But Abraham could not find 10 righteous in the cities and God destroyed them, every man, woman and child.
Can we be born again in the womb? Yes John the Baptist was. When John's mother Elizabeth heard Mary the mother of Jesus was about to visit her John jumped for joy in her womb. We read in Luke 1:44
"For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy."

This is a good question.
is it better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all?
Wouldn't it be better if nobody ever got married because so many marriages end in divorce?
Wouldn't it be better never to step up to the plate since the odds are we are going to get put out?
Life is a gift from God. We should let each person choose whether or not to accept it. God told us that we are to be fruitful and multiply, fill the Earth and subdue it. This is his command. Our love for Him compells us to follow His command.
BTW, "person" is totally wrong about Catholic teaching on dead babies and purgatory in general.

We are all born with a sin nature. The bible says there are none good....it doesn't say there are none good, except babies. "In sin, did my mother conceive me". The bible doesn't actually say anywhere that babies go directly to heaven. It is generally thought so, because unlike people who are older and have reasoning power....they cannot yet choose for God or against Him, therefore a just God would not condemn them.
Christians are pro life because we believe life starts at conception, and we do not have the right to alter that.
I hope my comments have not offended you....I try to follow the bible in my answers.
