You can use the Speech Properties dialog on the Control panel to make the computer speak text that you type. Just go to the Text-To-Speech tab and type text into the box then press the "Preview Voice" button to hear the computer speak it.

A slightly more sophisticated software application to make the computer talk is: e-Speaking Voice and Speech Recognition software from http://www.e-Speaking.com

At the bottom of the Speech tab you will find a box where you can enter text and the computer will speak it. Use the Enter key to make the computer talk. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to scroll through previously spoken phrases.

With e-Speaking, you can create voice commands that include text to speech to enable you to have scripted conversations with your computer.

Hello aiyman_hussain,

On the Macintosh it's almost any program. You highlight the text, and then go up to the Application name > Services > Speech > Start Speeking Text menu command.

It's great for reading the text back to you.
